E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial will be released on Blu-ray for the first time on 12 November to mark its 30th anniversary. Rather than re-releasing the 20th anniversary version, though, director Steven Spielberg has opted for the 1982 theatrical cut.

Great news that he is going back to the original cut.  I really hated it when he and Lucas started to remake their movies.

Spielberg once thought it to be a good idea, since it's a kid's movie, but then realilzed that the movies should stay the way they were. It seems Close Encounters of the Third Kind is somewhat an exception to that rule, although he seems to see the newer cuts as alternates, not replacements.

I don't mind if they redo things as long as they original available as part of the box set.

From what I have read Lucus is not willing to do that. Of course that makes my original versions worth more money!  ... but that would mean I'd have to sell them...something I won't do.
