I don't think I have seen a Hitchcock film that I'd call bad, either. Off the top of my head I would say that the Hitchcock film I have liked the least is Topaz.

My Review:
With over $700M in the boxoffice, and winning 7 Oscars, i have to say that i had my expactions up a great bit. And for me it didnt dissapoint at all. What an amazing movie with some great special efects. And with two of my favorite actors playing the characters it didnt hurt. And let me just say that i think Sandra Bullock was amazing in this one! I watched the 3D version, and they did just an amazing job with the 3D. Just amazing! If you have a chance, check out the 3D version! If not, this is such a great movie that you should check it out anyways.

I'm mostly into older films (as yoy may have gathered from my reviews), but I guess Gravity is one new movie that is going to be impossible to ignore. And I like Sandra Bullock.

Oh, me too are in to older movies. Casablanca and Platoon is two of my absolute favorite movies (if you can call Platoon a older movie) but Gravity was just amazing. I can almost guarantee you that you will enjoy it!

I have to confess that I haven't seen Platoon. But the BD is in my unwatched pile. I'm just waiting until I'm in the mood for it. I'm not really fond of realistic combat scenes. But i've decided to give Platoon a chance. Some day...

I have to confess that I haven't seen Platoon.

It is among the best movies of the 80-ies.
And while the combat-scenes are quite realistic they are nowhere near the brutality of (e.g.) Saving Private Ryan.

Well thank God for that. If you had said they were, then Platoon would likely have remained in my unwatched pile until blu-ray players were museum pieces.  :-[

I always preferred Full Metal Jacket over Platoon. Sure, Platoon is a good/great movie, but somehow Full Metal Jacket had a much more profound impact at me when I saw it in the cinema for the first time. Maybe it has to do with Platoon appearing way more black & white
(click to show/hide)
or maybe it's strongly anchored in R. Lee Ermey's performance. Strange overall, maybe, as Kubrick's Vietnam looks almost nothing like the real thing :headscratch:

Haven't seen Full Metal Jacket either. Nor Born on the 4th of July, for that matter.
But Platoon is in my player right now...

Is Platoon an older movie?
It must be. Evidence:
A) Johnny Depp is #12 in the credits
B) Charlie Sheen looks sober

Nope. Platoon just wasn't for me. It's a well made movie, but it just upsets me too much to be able to enjoy it. Well, at least I gave it a chance.

Yes, Salt is a lot of fun if you're in the mood for some action. Sure, there are some "oh really?" moments where the film streches credibility a bit too thin, but I can overlook that in a spy thriller. I'm usually a bit ambivalent about Angelina, but she's quite good here.

Oh, i do agree 100%. Like jumping down on those moving trucks on the highway? I mean, come on.. The law of fysics etc. But like you, i can overlook some of that, for the greater story. When it comes to Angie, i can really enjoy her work sometimes. But far from everytime, (i enjoy the oldschool Angie the best) Lara Croft etc. But have you seen 'Taking Lives' a great movie from her. Wich reminds me, i just prolly watch that again aswell. Dont want to step on anyone's toes here, but the last few years Angie has been a bit overrated imho. I'm not saying she's bad or anything, but she isnt what she once were. In some movies it just looks like she's in it for the money.

My Review:
Wow, that was a much better movie than i expected it to be! I've had this in my unwatched pile for ages. Dont know why i havent seen it before, but now i finally did. And what a great movie it was. But i'm not sure what kind of movie it is really, is it a war movie? Is it a action\thriller? I would say something in between all that. Even with a simple story\plot, they made the most of it. With some brilliant acting by both Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain! This movie is actually just great. Check it out when you got a chance.

My Rating:
We'll Always Have Paris.
