But you really have to buy the Blu-ray version of "Battle Royale". All the DVD versions that I know have horrible video quality.

I picked up the Limited Edition UK Blu on release but that has more than doubled in price now. You can get the regular 3 disc Blu-ray for the same price as the one disc if you go to the new section of Amazon Marketplace.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B007RM1G7K/ref=sr_1_1_olp?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1354446173&sr=1-1&condition=new

Of course, if you just want to check the movie out first, then grab one of the cheap DVD releases for about £1 plus postage used.

Whatever you do though, avoid Battle Royale II: Requiem.

It's quite universally disliked. I'd give it a generous 2/5

My Review:
So this was a movie i've had in my unwatched pile for a long time. A movie that i have wanted to see for a long time aswell. And a lot of people have recommaned this one to me, since i love war movies, specially the Vietnam war. So now i finally got around to watch it. And i will just start to say that its a bit different than the "usual" war movie. But its a good war movie. Its start of strong, and it keeps it high pace trough out the movie. A movie with a strong story, and you get to see the POV from some of the privates. And for me, this was a very interesting movie, with how they did it. Its a good and strong war movie, not as good as Platoon but a war movie that i would recommand you guys to watch.
This is a movie that i would like to watch again at some point. And if you guys know any other good Vietnam war movies, please let me know!

My Rating:
5/6

A couple that stood out when I watched them originally were Hamburger Hill and The Odd Angry Shot.

I have always preferred Full Metal Jacket over Platoon. I just felt that the anti-war message was much stronger in it than in Platoon, which had too many pretty sunset shots and the over-the-top crucification reference near the end (the one from the poster...). Full Metal jacket is so clearly not filmed in Vietnam (not that I would have known when I first watched it and yet it doesn't matter. Kubrick being Kubrick.

I gotcha Achim. And i can agree on some points.
But there is something with the whole movie (Platoon)
that just make it the great movie it is (for me) Now i've
only watched Ful Metal Jacket once, and Platoon many
times. And for me, being interested in the Vietnam war, the
Platoon is on my top 3 list of absolute favourite movies of all time.

What "M*A*S*H*" the movie was to the Korean 'confilct' so "Good Morning Viietnam" is to the Vietnam 'conflict'.  Some very good bits .. very funny and sad.
Thank you
