If I understood Jimmy's point correctly his vie is based on a complete denial of rating boards as such, as long as they don't restrict themselves to just giving ratings
My point is simple (at least for me, but maybe I don't use the right words to translate it). I've no problem with a rating board as long as they rate movie to determine what age group can watch something. I've a problem with a rating board if it ask to remove contents to get the right to be distributed in the country. The latter sounds like censorship in my mind, but it's highly due to the fact that our rating board here in the Province of Quebec is really permissive and doesn't refuse a rating if the movie show nothing illegal.

Also contrary to the US, the rating is an obligation here (and I think it's the case for most countries), So forcing a movie to be cut to get a rating sound like the rating board can ban a movie if you don't follow their moral value.

Am I clearer

... At least you made clear that I understood you correctly.
If anyone outside of our heads understood what we meant is something completely different.

We have our independant film board in our province, the canadian one is more strict (they usually gave higher rating) than our provincial one. But they have no say in everything cultural as it is a provincial jurisdiction (and here it's important that we control the culture), so I don't really check the canadian rating board. I don't think they ask for cut either, Kevin would know better than me on this but I think the Ontario had is own board also...

What I lernend in this thread, I should consider ordering from amazon.ca more often :hmmmm:

Jimmy, the BBFC is nowadays pretty much working the way you like it. They mainly require cuts only for illegal stuff. Of course, the "morally questionable" clause is slightly more flexible and might cause arguments occasionally. I remember Human Centipede and A Serbian Film was required to get cuts even for an 18 rating.
