Topic: Re-watching Your DVDs

With the huge unwatched pile I have... I must admit... I feel a little guilty when the mood hits to re-watch something I already watched once (or more) already. After watching the TV Movie Growing Up Brady this morning I have the strong urge to re-watch my complete series set of The Brady Bunch (5 seasons!). Granted I only watched it the once 3½ years ago when I first got it.

I mean it is weird... and I know I should watch what I want when I want. That is the point of having a collection after all!

I think part of it is the fact that a huge amount of my unwatched pile is from several people giving me DVDs. I am sure some of them are waiting for reviews of some of the movies/TV shows they gave me. But I have always been the type that if I am not in the mood for something... I just will not enjoy it as much if I force myself to watch it.

Anyway... was just a weird feeling hitting me that I felt a bit guilty about it.

Constantly. But the problem is that it becomes a vicious non-ending circle.

Feel like watching X old movie -> Can't watch that! I've got so many new ones! -> Choose to watch Y movie -> Hate it 2 seconds in because it's not X -> Go back to watching X .... and so on and so forth.

That's mostly how and why I end up playing video games instead of watching movies! ..

Well, this is why I regularly clear out titles. If I browse my shelves and feel a pang of "can't be bothered with that one", it's liable to be culled. The main reason is, there are titles I cannot resist returning to and I don't feel remotely guilty about ignoring unwatched ones. It's important that film matches your mood.

That's why sometimes I voice concern, Pete, when you seem to get so caught up in the marathons and then worry that you won't match the rate you watched in years before. Marathons are fun, but not at the cost of a burn-out. Your collection should be randomly relaxing... or relaxingly random.  

To pick something, try the old rhyme that a Bride follows for luck on her wedding day, to create a rota for movie watching...

Something borrowed; [rented]
Something blue. [nasty porn of the net]

It's going so fas as I'd rather watch an old movie because I know what I'll get and don't risk to be disappointed.

Nope, I never say that because I purposely keep a small enough collection of movies which are all ones that I want to see over and over again. I watch every movie in my collection at least once every few years and some of them more than once a year.

I always watch what I feel like watching, but my unwatched pile isn't scary like yours

I was quite surprise yesterday when I checked on DVDP to see the last time I've watched Footloose was more than 3 years ago. Of course that happen frequently when we have almost 2,000 movies

I don't feel that way too often..mostly because I got the movies to begin with because of how much I liked them. 

I'm watching my Harry Potter movies again now..  I have had a few feelings of I should watch something I can review for Epinions, but I keep going with Potter.

I often re-watch movies (some even multiple times), when I should work on my unwatched pile. I am not feeling guilty about it though. This is why I collect DVDs. I can watch them any time I am in the mood for it.

Yeah... I know. Like I said... I think where the guilt really comes in is the fact that I know so many people have given me LOTS of DVDs... and I am sure they would like to see me review the ones they gave me. Which is of course understandable.

I just need to find a good medium where I can get in both the unseen as well as the old favorites that I want to re-watch.

Yup Yup same for me , ive got a ton of stuff I havent watched yet and need to watch.I end up just re-watchin dvds Ive watched already.It all depends sometimes on what time of the day it is when I decide to watch a film.If its quite late,l I just put something on Ive watched already coz more then often ill probably end up fallin asleep half way through it or so lol.

I very seldom re-watch old DVDs, exactly because I have so many unwatched. I always used to think there was something a little bit wrong in re-watching movies with so many unwatched.

But now that I know that several of you guys do that, I may not be so hesitant. Of course that means that it's going to take me even longer to get through my unwatched pile. I don't know if I should thank you  or curse you...
