The original has unfortunately aged horribly IMO and I dug the remake a lot and enjoyed The New Beginning so looking forward to this.

I think also that the remake was ok and the prequel better than the remake was. But seriously writing that "the original has aged horribly" is ridiculous... It's one of the few horror films as scary as it was more than 35 years later. What do you need MTV edit, loud music and sound to show you when to be scared? Sorry can't be with you on that, another remake in useless 3D sound like a waste of time to me and will be the only film of that franchise that won't be a part of my collection...

What next, a 3D remake of the remake of Black Christmas

100% serious. I still love the original but it hasn't held up as well as other horrors from that era struggling to stay tense throughout, and I do dislike some of the characters to the point it takes away from my enjoyment. I still give the original 4/5 but it has lost that 'edge' for me (though maybe it's just the number of times I've seen it?). Halloween on the other hand, has not aged at all.

Nope. I'm not a fan of the MTV editing style though I do enjoy modern horrors. Some of my favourite genre films are ones that are notoriously slow and I love long eerie lingering shots in my horrors. However, I won't be calling any film 'useless' without even seeing it as I give all films the benefit of the doubt and will certainly give this is a chance. How do you know it's a waste of time a year before release?

Because it's just a film done to get some cash by jumping in the 3D bandwagon. There is absolutly no point for this to be made...

This is as pointless to me that the new edit of Night of the Living Dead that was made with new scenes added...

As I said it isn't because it's a remake I don't care, too be honest the prequel they did some years ago is the best Texas Chainsaw Massacre related films after the original in my book, but I can't stand unoriginal project done only to make a quick buck... but this is how I am.

If something looks like a turd and smell like a turd the chances are pretty high it will be one. I don't have to taste it to know it will make me sick...

I have to admit that I'm not against it as much as some. I think one good thing about these (profitable) cash-ins, is that studios then have more money they might risk on more original movies.

I do go into these remakes with a particular frame of mind, and yes, they usually are nowhere near as good but the years have thrown up some good remakes like Heat and TCM. I generally look at these as re-imaginings though than remakes and that way I can disassociate them from the series if I dislike them.

I've nothing against remake Per se, some are good, but most of the recent one doesn't worth the time as they bring nothing new and are for the most part uninspired...

My problem is more what's the point of a remake when there are already 3 sequels, one remake and a prequel? Don't tell me you wait for the release (if it's release) with high anticipation counting the days, because I'm sure you will watch this one only if you got a free theater pass or as a dvd screener. Some things just doesn't worth the money or the time...

But the good thing is that usually those project die at the concept table stage, just like the Suspiria remake did or the Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! remake did. Yeah I know there a link from them at imbd, but they are in devellopment hell and are stuck them forever.

I am indeed looking forward to this based on the cast and my feelings for the recent TCM movies, but it is a year away and things might change in that time that change my anticipation. I'm a patient guy and there are not many films I make the very long trip to the cinema for, so yes, likely will be a rental, a blind buy or a screener before I see it. In fact, only time I go to a cinema is when I happen to be going to a meeting near one, like tomorrow. I've already decided on The Lion King 3D though, instead of new releases. The 3D bit doesn't interest me, I just want to see The Lion King on the big screen again, like I did when I was 11.

I agree that this one has the cast going for it... If I can catch it in 2D then I just might. But most of them might just have cameos, like Marily Burns and Paul Partain did in the fourth one (blink and you might have missed them )...?

I just rewatched the entire series and the original is unsurpassed by any of the later films. And I found it to hold up extraordinarily well! Watching it makes you fell all grimy and dirty,m like you are there with them. Sure it has flaws, but NOTHING has EVER come close to depict this kind of thing as realistically. In all subsequent films you could feel the fakeness of the mask, the props, etc.

The second film was all messed up by the distributor and I understand the elements Hooper would need to create his original vision are all gone. Kudos though for not just rehashing the first one and taking off in an entire different direction.

Third and fourth are standard sequels, feeling more like remakes in that they just recreate the original premise and riff a little on it. The third one had Viggo Mortenson and Ken Foree and the fourth had Rene Zellwegger and Matthew Maccaughnehey (), especially the latter caused the film ultimately loads of problems since he bacamea star shortly after.

The remake is o.k., but it felt too glossy compared to the griminess of the original. The prequel is pure crap. I remembered it better than it actually is, most plotholes are big enough for a truck.
