Review sites
« on: February 18, 2008, 06:28:55 AM »
For DVDs I have usually trusted DVD Talk when I wanted to read about a (blind buy) DVD before purchase.

However, the times changing and now that I'll have to decide whether to buy something on Blu Ray or DVD I want to have more than one source for reviews to ensure image (and sound) quality are making the additional dollars well-spent.

So, besides DVD Talk, what review sites are you frequenting when it comes to Blu Ray?

I'll edit this post as suggestions come in; that way this thread can be a reference.

Hi-def Reviews | DVD Talk
Blu-ray Disc Reviews | High Def Digest

Not Blue Ray, since I don't want to make the switch at this time and I'm not sure if HD is really good for my genre of film.

My first and best reference : DVD Maniacs
Another good one : Eccentric Cinema
Another one more mainstream : DVD Verdict

edit : didn't see that it was in the Blue Ray forum

I like Hi-Def Digest for hi-def reviews.  They review so much there, it's hard to find something not in their database.

For DVDs, I've also been partial to DVD Movie Guide.  Again, they has a HUGE collection of reviews.  And they go into great detail on the bonus materials.  Even down to listing the running time and counting the number of pictures in photo galleries.

But the best site for reviews is DVD Basen.  They're not actually a review site, but a database of reviews.  You enter the movie you're looking for and they'll give you a list of every review site that has reviewed that movie.  Both SD and HD.

I have the same problem guy..there are plenty of 'movie review' sites..but I don't think that is what you are asking for...I think like me you are looking for not only review of the movie but whether or not to purchase the movie in SD or BD..the only site I have found any good for this is http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/ as mentioned above...it still lacks in my opinion because you have to do quite a bit of research and look at video ratings, audio ratings, etc etc...would be nice to have a dvd vs bd selection site...this one http://www.dvdtalk.com/ does a pretty good job also..look in the HD/Blu ray section...

Exactly. I mostly don't read movie reviews (unless of blind buys), but when considering to pay more dollars for the HD version of a film I'd like to know if it's worth it.

Maybe we'll still get one or two more sites to add to the list
