Anger Management

MY THOUGHTS

Always liked this movie! I find Jack Nicholson to be completely hilarious in it! I've seen him mostly in "serious" movies, and I find he handles the comedy quite well! And I find it nice that it dabbles in a different subject matter, even at its core, you could see it as a midlife crisis comedy, I liked that they went a little more specific with Anger Management. I also love how just about everybody who seem to be trying to help Adam Sandler's character, happen to be even crazier then he is!

I love Anger Management, although I prefer Adam Sandler as a more serious character, which id say he was more serious then funny in this its great! he doesn't need to play Happy Gilmore all the time ;P (I love Waterboy though ¬_¬) Something else I loved about this film was John C Reilly's performance as the monk XD thats hilarious.

Star Trek

MY THOUGHTS

What a feast! I loved it! Yes, they took a lot of liberties with the Star Trek canon. But you know what? It made for a great movie! And, somehow, I think that's what Star Trek needed the most. A proper reboot. Not necessarily throwing everything out the window, but subtle changes here and there to jazz it up a bit. And it's been done. With "panache"! The writers did a good job giving it the Star Trek "feel".... J.J. Abrams and his team did a good job giving it that shiny new, updated and spiffied look (which overuses lens flare, but eh! that's a small cost to finally getting more Trek).... But all that would've been moot if the casting was off. These characters are iconic. They have a whole aura around them. And I must say, while I was skeptical on some of the choices, they totally nailed the casting. Each actor was right for the job. Because you know, while Zachary Quinto for Spock is almost a given, Karl Urban as Bones is a pure stroke of genius! I loved him as Bones! And Simon Pegg as Scotty? Yeah I was skeptical. Be he gets full marks! They all do! I honestly didn't expect to like this new movie that much... but I must admit, to me, it ranks amongst the top. It might even become my favorite before too long! to J.J. Abrams and his team. They did a terrific job bringing back Star Trek!

I also loved Star Trek when seen in the IMAX

Only I personally thought that Simon Pegg was not the best choice for Scotty. Maybe he gets more to do with it in a sequel, but here I didn't like it (meaning: I didn't really like how theys trreated Scotty's character, and the choice of Simon didn't help).

My brother wants to watch my copy of Star Trek sometime this weekend... if he does I may just have to watch it again with him!

What happened is I didn't have much time before going to bed on Friday, and I needed a laugh! So I thought why not watch an episode or two of TBBT.. Well, I couldn't stop! and I watched it all! So I'm including each disc in my Alphathon.. hope it's ok with all of yous?

The Big Bang Theory: The Complete Second Season

MY THOUGHTS

This show cracks me up! Funniest sitcom I've seen in a long time! This season is even better than the first! I love how instead of going the "usual" route - bigger bolder badder - they actually centered on them even more, and brought to a more personal level. I love seeing Penny and Sheldon interact. They each live in such a different "world". I also love how they have Penny "win" most of the arguments with Sheldon... yet Sheldon will always get the last word, even though Penny obviously won the argument. I also like how there's an ongoing story thread. The characters are evolving, and the writers do leave breadcrumbs here and there, and then bring them up at crucial moments later in the season. All the characters are growing on me, even Howard (love the episode where Penny tells him "the truth" - probably my favourite)! The only bad I can think of on this show? The wait for Season 3 will be too loooooooooong.

Masters of the Universe

WHAT THEY SAY

Planet Eternia and the Castle of Greyskull are under threat from the evil Skeletor, who wants to take over the planet. A group of Freedom Fighters led by the heroic He-Man are accidentally transported to Earth by a mysterious Cosmic Key which holds the power to make Skeletor all-powerful. Once on Earth, He-Man joins alliances with two teenagers as they attempt to find the key and return home.

MY THOUGHTS

I thought I had never seen this movie before. But something felt really familiar right from the start. Some scenes were too familiar to be just a coincidence. And then it hit me, when you see Man-At-Arms, Gwildor and Teela eating at the chicken restaurant! Yes, I had seen this movie before! Anyway... I don't know what to say really. I didn't strike me as particularly good, but I wasn't bored with it. It was fun and entertaining, but gosh are the effects second-rate! But, I thought Frank Langella did a great job as Skeletor. It's obvious the whole movie is kind of limited, but Langella did a great job with what he had to work with. So yeah, the movie's got a lot going for it - blatant plot holes, cheesy effects, bad acting, steroid-induced muscles - yeah, its got it all!

G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra

MY THOUGHTS

Loved it! Action from begining to end. Pretty girls. Nice special effects. Nice gadgets and gear. Even a twist of sorts in the story (not that the story matters much in this kind of movie! haha). Much better adaptation of the subjet than I expected.

MY THOUGHTS

I think I understand why this got cancelled so far. I do think it's a bit unfair to cancel a show this quickly, without really giving them time to find their stride. It's odd. One the one hand, I like the show. It was fun and entertaining. But would it keep me coming back week after week? Not after the 8 episodes I've just seen. The show seemed unable to find a driving force. It's like they didn't know what to do with their characters. I sad really, I still would've liked to see more. I'm sure they'd eventually found something to make the show interesting, but as it stands, it was underwhelming.

I enjoyed it a bit more then you did Sébastien. It did have me coming back week after week and anticipating the next week. I was pretty upset when it was canceled. No I don't think it was a great series... but I just had so much fum watching it! Kinda like I did with the relaunching of Knight Rider.

The Hound of the Baskervilles

WHAT THEY SAY

On his uncle's death Sir Henry Baskerville returns from abroad and opens up the ancestral hall on the desolate moors of Devonshire. Holmes uncovers a plot to have Sir Henry murdered by a terrible trained hound. First casting of Rathbone and Bruce as Holmes and Watson.

MY THOUGHTS

I was in the mood for some mystery and crime solving.. What's better than Sherlock Holmes for that? And the original, with Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce? What more can I ask for? I've always loved Sherlock Holmes, despite the fact I've never read a book, but everytime I stumble accross something Holmes-related, I always love it. But it's been mostly video games so far. Back a few years ago, I saw a Sherlock Holmes Collection that had the 14 movies with Rathbone, so I bought it. This is no different. I loved it through and through.  The story is great, Rathbone and Bruce are well cast as our iconic duo. There's also something about the 1930's cinematography that I found lends well to this kind of story. There's an eeriness to the image during the whole movie that gives it that much more mystery. It may be due to the deterioration and subsequent restoration of the film, but I like to think it is as intended. It was nice to see Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce have that chemistry and more "easy going" manner. Acting back in the 30's is usually, I find, a bit stiff. Rathbone brings a refreshing change of pace. Only down point for me was that since this is the first of a series of Sherlock Holmes movies... where was Holmes? Most of the movie is Dr Watson at Baskerville mansion, and then, out of nowhere, Holmes reappears. Oh well, can't be perfect

Have you seen any of the BBC series produced over the years, Sébastien? I've seen the occasional one, as well as a couple of the films. The original book was written at a strange time as Conan Doyle had killed the hero off, but the public demanded more stories. He set Hounds before Holmes' death, which might explain his attempt to put more focus on Watson.

Looking forward to the new film then? I really don't know what to think of an all-action version. Ok, he was supposedly adept at martial arts, wrestling, etc, but the point was he hardly used them...
