I think I said it earlier this thread but any fans of UK comedy needs Early Doors. One of the best comedies ever and you can get both series seperately from Amazon for £6.48 (or together for £6.99 )
You did and it was a damn shame you were ignored, because this was a great show.
Matthias, I know you said earlier you don't like sitcoms as such, and to be fair I would have never pointed you towards Spaced, but it's worth your while looking up a couple of clips of things like Early Doors.
A lot of sitcoms are "gags first, characters second". Our TV can be very good at switching that around so stories concentrate on the people in more realistic, identifiable situations. The comedy comes from observational, real life stuff and can be tinged with melancholy.
Again, it isn't one you'd like, but Only Fools And Horses lasted as long as it did, because Del and Rodney became icons because viewers saw something of themselves there. It played for laughs, but it never had to try. I think a lot of sitcoms are weaker simple because they're trying too hard.
