As I mentioned, I'll happily take the Incredibles sequel, but Toy Story 4...? That seems like cah-in indeed, from where we are now. Like Quint (Ain't it cool) says, 3 wrappe up the story so perfectly that they better have a good reason to break with it and squeeze our another one.

The amount of sequels they seem to be doing is a bit scary though... :(

I'm not sure how I missed this thread for so long.  Though I haven't taken as much time to post here for the last week or so.

So...

Pixar's movies are so much better than what other studios - mainly DreamWorks - are churning out that they aren't even in the same league.  There have been a few things here and there that I haven't liked in some of the movies, but overall, I think they are wonderful.

To dismiss Pixar as just a bunch of nerdy programmers who don't know or care about story is wrong.  They have shown, over and over, that they do know and deeply care about the stories.  Ratatouille was not just to show off what they could do with individual strands of hair.  But if someone really feels that way about the movie, nothing I say will change their mind.

I really liked Cars when it came out.  Yes it was a bit odd with the characters being cars, but the movie was still very entertaining.  I never really thought about a sequel for it, but I wanted to see it once I knew it was coming out.

I went to see the movie Friday and I really enjoyed it.  I've been meaning to get something about it posted here...I'll have to get that done this evening.  Even though Pixar has done amazing movies, I try not to let my expectations get too high.  And I don't think I hold them to a higher standard because of what they've done in the past either.  Yes the movie has a few issues, but it isn't horrible.  It isn't the greatest thing that Pixar has done, but I didn't expect it to be either.  Just because they didn't top Toy Story 3 doesn't mean this movie still isn't fun and entertaining.  People that didn't care for the first movie more than likely won't like this one either.

I haven't anything about another Toy Story being made.  I think there is potential for another Monster's movie..and Incredibles.  Sequels don't have to be bad things if they are done right.

I did like Kung Fu Panda and think it is one of the better ones from Dreamworks.  Kung Fu Panda 2 is pretty good too.

Been busy for a few days so lost track. I saw your Cars 2 review, Marie and it's good to hear something positive at last.

I like that. And you know what? Sequels have been obvious, unnecessary things to be taken for granted for some time, but that's other studios. Pixar re-write the rule book time and time again. Why not with this? My gut instinct is a Toy Story 4 is not required, like so many people think, but they've managed to surprise me with every other film they've made and if they've come up with something special, I trust them. They could have something revolutionary ready. So I'm not going to say a damn word until it gets released, because Pixar are the last company you should try and second-guess.

And I like the Brave trailer. I just knew Matthias was going to pull out the Kells! :tease: Hey, it's always worth seeing that trailer though (still haven't seen the film proper, but I very much want to). I suspect Brave will travel a very different route, but there's more than enough room in the world for two Celtic stories. And Matthias, look at this way, you probably won't like Brave, it will probably be a massive hit and still no-one will have appreciated Kells properly, but at least you'll always have an excuse to try and convince people. Same way with me and The Matrix. Every time it's mentioned, it's yet another opportunity to win someone over to the superior Ghost In The Shell.

So, after rethinking this for a while and with your comment after rewatching the scene, I guess it would be one of those cases where the audiences is given the chance to make up there mind, whether it's all just in Carl's head or if he and Russel indeed go on an adventure...

Yeah, that's it. If you were to pull it apart, there's arguments for and against, but I think those sorts of narratives invite the viewer to have their own opinion and reward them, whatever they decide.

Most of the other reviews at Epinions are positive too, though they had a few more issues with it than I did.  Least the ones I've read so far.  There may be new ones.  But I really do think the movie is good overall.  Some people are bashing it too much.

Yes...you've said basically what I was thinking about it too.  Pixar has done really well with sequels.  And where Toy Story is concerned, I think they care enough about those characters to not just try to crank out crap because the characters are popular...like was done with Shrek.  While Cars 2 isn't as good as other Pixar movies, it is still really good..and I think it is a pretty good sequel too.  Yes the story doesn't have the same strong emotional core that the other Pixar movies have had, but they did do something different with the story this time, and they even changed main characters.

I really liked the Brave trailer.  It doesn't show much, but I'm already wanting to see it. And just the little bit in the trailer looked gorgeous in the theater.
