Space 1999 Megaset
« on: April 27, 2007, 12:50:22 AM »
I'm very insterested in buying this.  I'd like to know if those who have are happy with it, how's the quality of sound and images ?

Checking on CinemaMontreal.com, I just found out that they are gonna release the Megaset 30th Anniversary Set in July for about 1/2 the price.  They don't have any details about it, does anyone know what the differences are and it's half priced ?

Thanks Skip.

Video and audio get reasonable notes.  I just need to find out what, if any, I would be losing by buying the much cheaper 30th anniversary edition.

The sets are the same just repackaged into one BIG set.

Then I guess it's just another case of studio madness.  Why would anyone want to pay 250$ when the next thing is just the same but for half the price ?  Unless of course the original release goes OOP

Just found out that it's distributed by A&E, I didn't know that.  I went to their web site and compared the sets.  They appear to be the same except for 1 thing I'm not sure about.

The first megaset speaks about 3 "recently unhearted" episodes, the 30th anniversary edition doesn't mention that in its description, it only says "extra footage and more" so I wonder if those 3 episodes are included or not, I would say they probably are but I wish it was clear in the description.

I'm not gonna spend 125$ extra just in case ;), I pre-ordered the 30th anniversary edition.  I'll let you all know when I get it in august.  My guess is that it's there as well, it wouldn't make sense to remove it.  They just didn't specify it in the description on the web site.

This seems to be a Canadian release. I know that there was remastering being done in England. This set may have the remastered episodes, but there is virtually no information on this product available. It is listed on Amazon.ca. This edition may also come in thinpacks, which would be good news. I have the original A&E releases in keepcases and they take up too much space.

The picture quality on the first season is mediocre, while the second season is better. The remastered episodes should be an improvement. If these are the new transfers, do let us know.

It's not a Canadian release, it's actually advertised on A&E's online store but there is very little information.

Well, from that A&E webpage, I can tell that it is packaged in thinpaks and includes a bonus disc. I didn't see anything about these being remastered. I will keep looking. It is odd that A&E is so far the only non-Canadian site on which this has been found. Amazon.com does not list it, but Amazon.ca does.

This is the UPC that my online retailer has for it.  I googled I only got 1 result back which was that same retailer.

Great minds think alike. I also googled the UPC from CinemaMontreal.com.

I believe that the following link answers all questions:

I don't know that I will buy this. It is reasonably priced, but too expensive for a double dip.

I received an email today from Cinemaclock informing me that they have dropped the price on this and that my order has been adjusted accordingly, it's now at 106.99$ Canadian, very reasonable prince IMO
