Suggestions Needed
« on: February 28, 2011, 02:43:37 PM »
This morning I was looking at my TV Show collection. And I noticed I have TV Series titles starting with numbers... and every letter of the alphabet but 2... Y & Z. Seeing this makes me want to get a title for each of these letters just to be able to say I have every letter covered. I know... silly but hey... what can I say?  :P

Any suggestions of TV Series that starts with the Letters Y & Z preferably on R1 DVD?
Pete

I thought you owned some of the old Zorro TV series - don't you?

You could always steal one of you daughter's Yu-Gi-Oh! DVDs.

Yes Minister is a BBC comedy series.
The Young Riders.

Nope... no Zorro series. Considering it though. And no... I couldn't steal from Brittany!  :P

What about Zorro's Black Whip or Zorro's Cliffhanger Collection?

Or, don't you consider TV serials to be TV series? Or, do you just need to buy more DVDs?  :tease:

Well no I don't consider them TV Series... mainly because they originally were at the theater... They are Theatrical serials... not TV serials. :P

Sorry for the following pun:

So a "serial killer" is someone who changes channels while the commercials are on?  ;D

Kathy mentioned The Young Riders and I have that.  It's a pretty good western but so far they have only released the first season and I doubt we'll ever see more.  So you can get that and not feel obligated to continue the series.  :P  There's very little to choose from regarding "Z" series, I'm afraid.  There's Zorro...that might be your best bet.  There was also a second Zorro series  that originally aired on The Family Channel in the 1990s and which starred Duncan Regehr.  Finally, there was a Zorro comedy called Zorro and Son!  Oh yes, I also have one called Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater.  So you can count that as a Z if you like.  It is an anthology western with no continuing characters, though Dick Powell introduced the stories and also acted in several episodes.  So far, just the first season has been released.

This is the Zorro set I am considering...

Zorro: The Complete Series ($40.99)
Duncan Regehr (Actor), James Victor (Actor) | Rated: NR | Format: DVD

So I guess this is the Family Channel one from the 1990s? Does anyone here know if it is any good?

I can't remember if I saw that Zorro show or not...I'm thinking I might have seen it, but I can't remember for sure.

Suggestions (not necessarily recommendations ):

The Yogi Bear Show

Nothing quite like the classics, even if they have a different feel now than when we were younger.

Yu-Gi-Oh!

One of the few Anime series that I enjoyed (the first series that aired in the U.S., not the follow-up GX or 5D's), however one consideration is that the series ran for five seasons but only the first three were released. The rights transferred to a different company who decided not to release the final two seasons.

The Zeta Project

A short-lived series in the same animation style and DC mythology as Batman Beyond, Justice League, and Static Shock.

Zoids

Another general Anime series' name. I'm not sure exactly what parts have been released.

I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

Sorry, Pete, but I never saw that version of Zorro.  I may not have been getting that channel then...or more likely I did and just never bothered to check it out.

You're welcome, Pete.

I really enjoyed the whole mythology between that collection of series, particularly with the character crossovers.

- Batman: The Animated Series
- Superman: The Animated Series
- The New Batman Adventures
- Static Shock
- Justice League
- Justice League Unlimited
- Batman Beyond
- The Zeta Project

Even one of my favorite scenes from Teen Titans (which wasn't intertwined with the other series) was when Slade tries to convince Robin to join him saying he could be like a father to Robin. Robin replies, "I already have a father" and the main music cue from B:TAS plays with bats in the animation style from that series fly at the screen. There was just something spectacular to me about making that choice.

Not including movies (or Teen Titans episodes for reason above), according to Wikipedia there are a total of 410 episodes. I would have been happy to see twice as many. It seemed every series had a nice fan base, but I guess they ran their one or two seasons--26 episodes each--and it was time to move on to something else regardless.  (Yet, they keep releasing a few new movies because they realize the fans are still out there; more the reason they should have lasted more than two seasons each.)

Zeta Project was a good example to me. I thought it was good... quite a bit different, but still as enjoyable as the rest, and I did not understand why it ended so quickly. (They didn't even bother to release all of the episodes on DVD.)

[/end rambling]
