WRUP - What are you playing?
« on: February 25, 2011, 02:18:47 AM »
I know, there are already two threads about games here. However, it always felt a bit weird to me that they are titled xbox 360 and Playstation respectively... In this thread we can just comment about (not necessarily reviewing) what we are currently playing, regardless what device it's on. Heck, if you enjoy a board game, let the others know too.

I have been a great fan of Dead Space (we discussed it's scary and violent goodness elsewhere; it's clearly not for everyone).

January saw the release of part 2. What an awesome game it is. I already played through the story once and enjoyed the build up immensely and was positively surprised by the end.

I am now trying to play through the Hard Core mode. Visceral Games are trying something new here. Instead of just making the game tougher to play, like it usually with the higher difficulties, they actually made it easier than the hardest of the other difficulties. The twist is, that during the 15 chapters you only get to save 3 times (3.5 on the xbox 360)! I have already tried several times but still haven't made my first save :bag: I am trying to ge to chapter 6 (was shooting for 7, but almost changed my mind) and have goofed up several times. But, I am getting better and know now what weapons I want to use. (I have a 4-day weekend now and am determine to succeed...)

I'm currently splitting my time between classic King's Quest games and Space Rangers 2: Dominator

But that's all about to change, to Dragon Age 2's release next week! WOOT!

I'm still debating wether to replay Origins or not before it gets here ... Guess I'll decide tomorrow.

I've been mostly playing my Nintendo DS lately.  Recent games include Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader: Back To School (I hate the sound in this one, though, the worst one among the last 3 as I don't have the very first one), Deal Or No Deal and You Don't Know Jack (which just arrived today).

I've also been playing a baseball season on my GameCube using MVP Baseball 2005.  2005?  Yes, it was the last of this series to include MLB teams and players.  I'm playing as the Pirates...this game is too easy, though.  My record right now is something like 42-12.

I tried the demo for Dragon Age II yesterday and didn't find the combat matches what I like; guess I prefer shooting to battle combos.

But i am looking forward to continue with Bioware's Mass Effect 2 once Dead Space 2 is done.

I like Dragon Age's combat system for its nod to old school Knights of the Old Republic. It's not as engaged as Mass Effect's, heck it's almost turn based, but I like it all the same.

I like that they integrated Mass Effect's conversation mechanics into Dragon Age though.. it felt a bit static and detached to have the hero not involved in most conversations in Origins.

What am I doing up at 3am when I have to get to work at 6h30? arrrgh!

Too much button mashing for me  I am still getting used to the combat in Mass effect 2 though, not for the shooting of course, but the mechanic to command the companions...

For the record, there's actually 3 other video game threads.  You forgot one I started, which I titled Video Game Marathon.  I started that one to be one for any video game reviews.  Maybe I should retitle it?  :-\

I think my Nintendo DSi XL may arrive today.  The question is who will reach my home first, it or me (following dialysis)?

I didn't forget. :D After originally mentioning it more clearly I then changed it to the comment, that we can talk about games we currently play, without necessarily reviewing them. Or, this is the chat-thread and and the one you opened is the review thread. I think your thread is named just fine. In the beginning it felt a bit like it should only be used by you, but once a few others wrote reviews in there as well it opened up accordingly.

Nitpicking but ... how is that different to constantly pulling a trigger to shoot? ;)

Today I received Press Your Luck: 2010 Edition for the Nintendo DS and just had my first game for it.  My main problem is the text for the questions is a bit small.  This is one game I may wind up playing only on the DSi XL once that larger unit arrives...I thought it might come today but it didn't.  My computerized opponents weren't too bright...they kept picking the wrong answer and I sometimes didn't have time to read the full question.  I wound up winning with $1,000.  No Whammy showed up in that game.

As I was sitting here, wondering what to play, I decided to give Dragon Age 2's demo another playthrough...

Then I saw Dragon Age: Origins in the list of games (it's installed on my Xbox)

......

I'm now playing a new character (Human/Male/Warrior - Good path - don't know which specialisation i'll get yet)

:-[

But the trigger is only one button. In the demo alone I already needed o choose between 3... Throwing that bottle of something, evading backwards and slashing away with the knives. I know, in the shooter I also need to remember more, like reloading, melee, etc. But somehow that feels different. Just like I never enjoyed God of War type gameplay

I guess another reason is that the setting is not my thing either. I for one am not overly excited about Skyrim :bag:

Me neither.

It's funny because while I love Fallout 3 / New Vegas ... I never could get into Morrowind / Oblivion. They are pretty much the same thing (from outside anyway, in terms of gameplay), but at the same time so different...

---

I just had a look through the achievements for Dragon Age Origins... I haven't played much of the DLC content it seems. No achievements unlocked for Witch Hunt, or Golems of Amgarrak, or Leliana's Song, or Darkspawn Chronicles, or Awakening ....

I have my "work" cut out if I want to be done by the time I get Dragon Age II
