I love my friends
« on: January 25, 2011, 03:53:41 PM »
I sleep with an electric blanket. It keeps me toasty warm and I always turn the gas down before I go to bed.

Yesterday morning when I woke up, my house was unusually cold. I have an old Moores heater which supplies direct heat - no electricity is needed to start it up.

Well, I went to my heater and turned it up and...nothing. Oh dear. I crawled back into my toasty bed and figured I'd worry about it after I got home from work.

I closed off all the rooms so the animals could hibernate and keep each other warm.

I told my friend Mark, who lives in the other section of the duplex, about my problem. He watches the critters and take out my dog when I'm gone.

I got home from work around 11:30 pm expecting to turn the blanket on and shiver until it warmed up.

But, I came home to toasty warm house. Mark had figured out the problem and fixed it!

I love my friends!

That was very cool of him. Is this the same guy that fixed your care when some critters got to it?

Yes Pete, this is the same friend that fixed my car.

I haven't decided what "thank you" gift I'll make - maybe a homemade apple pie.

You don't have, by any chance, anything else to fix, have you?

For a good homemade apple pie I'd even fly around the world (half of it anyway).

"I flew all of the way around the world to get to my next door neighbor's house and get the apple pie she baked me."

Things like that are always so nice to hear, Kathy ;D
I have a collection.
It can be found here.
No need to check it often.
I update it only twice a year!

Very funny.  It was just old, too old actually. I think you're suppose to replaced them every 24 months or so.

I just bought one for the first time this year. Then, because I got tired of moving it from the bedroom to the living room (I use it as a lap blanket too) I bought a second one!

I do take care - cover them with lots of linens so the cats can't get to them. I also have smoke alarms.

One hint I'd like to pass on about smoke alarms - change the battery every Jan. 1. This is the only way I am sure to remember it!

I must say though - I love my electric blanket. My heating bills are down almost $100 a month although the electric bill increased about $10. I'm sure the savings will be even greater this month because of the bitter cold.

What is amazing is I turn my heat to pilot - and I'm actually hot in bed...I know... I frequently have to turn it off because once the bed is warm the layers of blankets retain the heat.

Did I mention I love my electric blanket?

That is so nice that he did that for you Kathy.

My electric blanket doesn't seem to be working as well this year.  I may check on getting a new one after payday.
