This is my favourite Sigur Ros song, possibly their best song. If you want an introduction to them then just listen to this.

Ooo I love these. Bear did an awesome score on the Sarah Connor Chronicles. And I loved Giacchino's score for Ratatouille.

I love Bear's Battlestar Galactica score.. And Giacchino's return to the correct 5/4 beat for Mission: Impossible brought a tear to me eye (rectifying U2's travesty of making it 4/4  :voodoo:)

D'Oh!  :slaphead:

Just realised.... How could I forget Brian Tyler?? His score for SciFi's "Children of Dune" is just too great for words! It is still being used for a lot of other movie's trailers!

Summon the Worms

Inama Nushif (probably my favorite song)

Those are great, and I personally know what you mean about some soundtracks and film scores able to bring a tear to your eye. I have heaps like that. And as I said before, The Lion King in particular always gets me, even though it's possibly my most listened to soundtrack. I just think the score is beautiful, and powerful.

This song in particular is just outstanding.

EDIT: Yeah Eddie I love Elfmans stuff. I especially love how crazy his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory soundtrack was. But as far as his work goes I don't think I can go past the Edward Scissorhands score.

I love Danny Elfman's stuff. Among many, many other of his works, his Main Theme for Fable is really powerful.

A lot of great composers for games.

Jeremy Soule (Kotor, Elder Scrolls)
Jack Wall (Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Splinter Cell)
Motoi Sakuraba (Eternal Sonata, the "Tales" series, Star Ocean)
Marin O'Donnell (Halo)
Inon Zur (Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3)

And all the classic game music gurus (whose names escape me at the moment) but on: Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, etc.

The art of songwriting has diminished over the last three decades, due to the emergence of rap and hip-hop.

Here's a few from two of the best songwriters of the 60's...

Jimmy Webb, songwriter and collaborator with Glen Campbell...really pay attention to the arrangements

He also wrote this for Art Garfunkel...

...for Richard Harris...

...and for the Fifth Dimension...

And then there was Laura Nyro, songwriter and performer. I could play the cover versions of her songs from the more famous artists who made them hits, but I've always loved Nyro's voice and her style of arrangement. You'll be surprised at how many hits she wrote for other artists...

...for the Fifth Dimension...

...for Barbara Streisand...

...for Blood, Sweat and Tears...

...she didn't write this, but I've always loved her version of this Carole King song...

I won't bother with a top ten list, but my favorite ever since she first appeared in the early '90s is undoubtedly PJ Harvey. Here are two very different clips, one from 1992 and one from 2007:

My alltime favourite:
Lisa Gerrard (singer of "Dead can Dance") with Pieter Bourke (Keyboards)

It's so beautiful, I in fact cry everytime that I hear it (even with the very poor sound-quality of this video).
The range of the voice is simply amazing
