2010 movie. Out on Blu-ray if you're willing to spend the money (Japanese release).
The good news (for me): I realized today :bag: that my partner currently is in Japan and either can buy this for me and bring it next week or I can buy it myself when I will visit Japan (Osaka) in May or so. ;D

The not so good news: While cheaper than YesAsia (the one link in English), Blu-ray seem quite expensive in Japan :o

So, but my question was going to be this: Any suggestions for Japan-only releases? Or for similar Japanese films (or of horror genre) that are better to get at the source (obviously those should have English subtitles...)?
Ah, you've got the same caveat as I do (English subtitle requirement).
A few options:
* Run a few filters on YesAsia and see what comes up
* Have a bit of a browse through Asian Blu-ray Guide, and see what comes up.

Remember that there might be versions of Western films that might be different (e.g. Johnny Mnemonic is on Blu-ray and includes an SD copy of the Japanese cut; Kill Bill is all in colour).
Unfortunately any movies I could think of with giant monsters/horror don't have English subtitles. Perhaps keep an eye out for cool merchandise. There are some cool artbooks around.

Thanks for the response. I will follow your advise before traveling to Japan, so I will know what to look out for in the stores.

I ended up placing an order with YesAsia today (not a cheap one at that), which I will "blame" on you :P (you may have noticed such a trend on this forum ; nothing to be concerned about). Our discussion here made me look at their selection and I found a few films... Ghost in the Shell (this would be the mian item linked to the discussion) in a proper release which has both version in HD (from what I can tell so far), Infernal Affairs Trilogy, Black Mask and some others.

What? You mean the original cut of Ghost In The Shell and not the horrible cgi version?

Black Mask
Assuming that's not the US release, I'll happily take the credit for your purchase (and if it isn't region-locked, I'll be sorely tempted to add it to my collection, despite having already triple-dipped at DVD-level).

Infernal Affairs is pretty cool. I've only seen the first, but intend to watch the others at some stage.

That is exactly what I mean. Both versions, a 3-Blu-ray set with an added audio CD with the soundtrack!

Before I give you a link though, let me warn you that looking at the price is not for the faint of heart! After all it is a Limited Edition and from Japan!
Ghost in the Shell 2.0 Blu-ray Box (Blu-ray) (First Press Limited Edition) (English Subtitled) (Japan Version)

Not the US release! I once bought the DVD as an upgrade to my Taiwanese version and never watched it due to the lack of the original audio. What a shame. They did the same with the Blu-ray later on.

It's a Hong Kong release which only just came out on March 3!
Black Mask (Blu-ray) (Hong Kong Version)
It is apparently not region free. :(

I found the sequels to be a little lesser to the first one, but still very good continuations of the story.

EDIT:
BTW, the other stuff I ordered is:
A Chinese Ghost Story
Aftershock
Once A Thief
And for ordering 4 Chinese Blu-rays I get this for free:
The Beast Stalker

Wow! See what you mean about the price. Ouch..   :o

One thing though, it doesn't mention any remastering on the old one. I wonder if there is any benefit to it. I had Innocence on Blu-Ray and it wasn't much better than the DVD so I sold it.

I guess I'm hanging on to my A Grand Collection of Black Mask a while longer.

I was in a money wasting mood yesterday, otherwise I wouldn't normally spend this much.

I am keeping my fingers crossed... The original is on a separate Blu-ray all by itself. If it were just an old shitty version I hope they wouldn't waste a Blu-ray for it. I'll let you know once I have it.
