What's my job??
Hmm ... just like anybody working on the hardware side of IT my job is to do just about anything that's remotely IT related.
So my customers pay me for doing backups, supervising internal and external IT-security, general maintenance, soft- and hardware installation, repair, removing coffee cups from the fax, ...
I'm self-employed and do most of this from my home-office (except for the removal of coffee cups, of course).

In German we have an expression for this it's: "Mädchen für Alles"

My official college degree is "Diplom-Wirtschaftsinformatiker (FH)".

Basically it's an education on business and IT but I specialized more towards IT (you know, the usual suspects: database design, software architecture, programming).

I've been working for my company for more than nine years now and have been in all kind of projects: Building a Customer Relationship Management software from scratch, then I switched to a team that designed a part of the entertainment software for Audi (in cooperation with Siemens VDO), later we implemented the web application for Touropa and its connections to the background tourism booking systems.

For five years now I've been part of the (huge) Siemens A&D team that designs the next generation development suite for industrial plants  (Step 7 V10 and higher).

IT Support.    Been doing it various guises since the mid 90s. Current position in a lot of ways is a step down, but I was an onsite engineer for an Estate Agents two years ago. That should have been good, but hey, working for an Estate Agent in 2007? Not a great idea, people.  Soooo, I was made redundant and this came up. It's not very exciting, but it is solid. Hopefully it'll pan out to be more interesting soon.

Of course, I write a lot of reviews. If I could paid for that, cool, I'd do it.

I work part time at a clothes shop, I also an intern at my old college maintaining a website and teaching little bits.... But im also taking a degree in film production so im pretty busy all the time :p

I am a critical care nurse currently doing private duty nursing. It is a complete change of pace that I am quite enjoying.

I'm a web developer.  Mainly with .NET, but we just finished a giant upgrade of our main database our whole company runs off and it's WebSphere / Java.

I work at a software company. Our departments develops diagnostic software for car manufacturers and their suppliers. When looking for a job description of my position for my business card, my boss and I decided to call it "Quality Engineer". I am responsible for the quality assurance and testing for one of our biggest softwares, and I am also doing most of the work for configuration management.
And I also administer the department server which is responsible for source control and other applications. And I also substituting for our customer support.
I have become the "go-to" guy for too many things. Even for things I am not officially the responsible one. I know too much

I knew most everyone had something to do with computers and software...mostly because I have no idea what you are talking about a lot of the time!

Yet another IT'er here. Well ex-IT'er in fact. I worked, since the mid-1990's, in Mid-Range Computing Support, mainly SUN and Sequent UNIX servers, for a British Telecommunications company. In 2004 they outsourced us to a US High-end Producer of computers. Towards the end of 2006 the new bosses asked for volunteers for redundancy and I accepted as the terms looked quite good and I therefore left in early 2007. I fully expected to take some rest and recreation before re-entering the job market maybe a year later but of course the bubble burst and the recession kicked in. Although I didn't look hard I kept an eye out but I finally decided to accept my losses and asked the pension fund managers for details of value and charges against the pension I had accrued with the British Telecommunications company. They reported back that by taking the pension from January 2010 I would lose approx 5% of its acturial value. This figure seemed acceptable and was within all guidelines I could find so I accepted and since January 2010 I have been retired on my company pension.
