Anyone know much about the new Flash Gordon series?

A couple of adverts have been on the Scifi channel(in the UK).  It doesn't look as though it's going to be as good as the film from the eighties or the Buster Crabbe sereals.

I read an article once about it on a german site.

AFAIR the main actor is Lana Lang's former boyfriend from "Smallville".

They didn't think much of the first few episodes in that review.
