Kelly Reichardt's Meek's Cutoff, with Michelle Williams (who should win tomorrow, but probably won't).

Just saw this on Film 2011. Didn't like the look of it at first, but they showed more clips and I'm up for it now!

Also, not one for me, but I wonder if it's on Matthias's radar...

Archipelago (Empire review)

I saw another clip on Film 2011 and I think we might be in Rachel Getting Married territory. Danny Leigh said he thought it was very good but the slow pace would catch people out. He liked it so much Claudia Winkleman asked, were there two films out this week both called Archipelago? Very funny, but her point was she hated it.

Thanks for thinking of me.  :) Wasn't on my radar, but I just noticed that her previous film Unrelated has been on my wish list for about two years now.  :bag: The new one seems like another case of "sounds kinda interesting, lets put it on the list" without ever getting around to follow up on it.

Lars von Trier's Melancholia. Although I have to admit that I still haven't seen Antichrist.

Well, I'm about as interested in Antichrist as I am in spending the day repeatedly poking my eye with a fork, but that looks very good. Considering the music, the photography and the cast, it looks rather more sumptuous and theatrical than I usually attribute to his work. Combine it with his obsession with human nature and the clearly nutty story that's probably so twisted it might make the more unsuspecting audience members throw up, I'm up for this. I still haven't seen Black Swan, but I get the impression this might be some kind of response. A very thin link, but sometimes cinema is all about thin links...

Melancholia looks highly interesting.

Thanks for reminding me of Antichrist, I finally ordered the BluRay today.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Saw this earlier today and was thoroughly impressed. This seems to turn out quite good.

Hobo with a Shotgun
Won't be a good Gilmore, but with Rutge Hauer as the titular hobo and all that gore, I don't care. Looks like a bucket if fun.

Grave Encounters
 This is going on since Blair Witch! When will it end; the peak was clearly reached with [REC]

Real Steel
This could be fun, but unfortunately there is loads of potential for this to turn into sappy crap.

We Are The Night
So vampire saturation has still not been reached :headscratch:

I think it looks awful.  The trailer seems to tell you the entire film, while the perceived plot would undermine the original films story to make it utterly pointless.

I agree, it tells us few more things we should see in a trailer and appears to go all the way into the third act. I actually didn't think aboutthst while watching  I was concentrating on how the apes looked, which actually was a bit CGI-y half the time.

I think it's a reboot, so continuity to the original film is not required. Although I thought it could still fit. Basically Charlon Heston will be send into space somewherecat the beginning of the movie and comes back years and years later. The original films were a lot about the nuclear threat, something that is not really relevant today anyway, so a reboot is even necessary.

I saw the trailer for Rise of the Planet of the Apes a few days ago.
I've seen the original movies...on tv years ago.  I can't remember much about them...I don't consider myself a fan.  So I don't think I'll see the new one.  My stepdad will probably want to see it..he likes the Ape movies.
