Cleaning Up DVDP's Cast & Crew Lists
« on: July 22, 2010, 12:08:01 AM »
A while back ago when I had to reformat my hard drive... loosing all my cast and crew pictures. I decided to download the headshot database that some of the Invelos users put together. While adding guest stars to the I Love Lucy I noticed a load of cast names that had 0 profiles attached to them (but all had headshots). So I decided what is the sense of having all these people in my profiler when I don't have anything with them in it yet.... just taking up space. Especially since each one had a picture attached to it. So when I did the database repair... checking off to delete unused cast and crew (picture or not).... I got rid of...

Crew: 1,990
Cast: 21,645 (WOW!)

I have to think that got back some of my hard drive space as well.

After you did such a huge clean up, it's always a good idea to do the following.

Backup your entire database.
Create a new, empty one (don't select "copy current").
Restore the backup there.

You'll see that the new files are considerably smaller than the original database and still contains everything.

So there is probably no "compress" function, like in MS Outlook, that Ken can/does make use of? That would be a bit silly, no?

Would I be able to expect strong perfomance improvement from such measures, or just save space?

I was thinking that too. Usually it's just me and sometimes Jon that are up now in these time zones.

 Yes, now that you mention it. I saw you posting at this kind of time and that never seemed particularly odd.

it was too warm to sleep and since I don't need to get up at a certain point, I can afford it. ;)
