Is the war over ?

If you're not already aware of this, Warners Brothers announced last week that they decided to drop HD-DVD and back Blu-Ray exclusively.

According to the Financial Times, Paramount who exclusively supports HD-DVD had a condition in their contract with Toshiba that would allow them to pull out in the event that Warners decides to back Blu-Ray exclusively.

On the one hand it'd be good when it where over. On the other hand I think the wrong one won. I don't like Sony very much.

What I don't like about the fact that Blu basically won, is that the spec are still not finalized! If you buy a reader now, there's nothing to guarantee it'll still work with movies coming out in a few months! HD didn't have that problem. All the spec were finalized right from the get go.

In either case, I'm still sitting this one out. I'm perfectly happy with my upconverted DVD. I so no reason whatsoever to move to HD/BR.

For one minute I was thinking that this one was a political thread  :laugh:

Everytime that I've read something about the Blue ray format it's always a recall because a disc doesn't work. This is certainly the better of the two format  ::)

But honestly, I don't see any reason to switch I'm perfectly happy with the actual DVD and I don't see them die anytime soon. If it's happen I've a lot of title to buy on DVD, maybe enough for the next ten years.

I recently went purple  ??? (was red for a year prior to buying blue) and I agree that the wrong one won. But I believe the war is over. I'll buy nearly exclusively Blu-ray from now on based on the Warner announcement (except for the HD DVD fire sales that are sure to come).

What's this mean for Microsoft? In regard to the 360.

It looks like MS is already starting to set up a Blu-Ray deal;

That's pretty much exactly my situation.  I've had my HD DVD player for about 8 months nows, but picked up a PS3 last night.  I also agree that the worst format won, but I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying HD.

Apparently Toshiba announced a big price drop on all their HD-DVD Players today.

The HD-A3 model went from 249.99 to 149.99.  The HD-A30 and HD-35 will be sold 199.99 and 399.99 respectively, a price drop of 200$ each.

Me too. I wouldn't mind having a stand-alone from the upcoming fire sale.
