The Last Airbender.
« on: June 29, 2010, 07:13:15 AM »
I'm interested in seeing this film as I am a fan of the cartoon and want to see how it translates to the big screen. But I am having an issue with the release dates. This film is being released in the US in two days on July 1st, but when it is being released in Australia? Close to two and a half months after the US release on the 16th of September! I mean really, I know we have to wait a bit sometimes but isn't that a bit long, especially for a film that a lot are looking forward to. I don't mind waiting an extra week or two but when we have to wait months and months after an American release it can be very annoying. Some films can take up to half a year or even more to come out here after the US.

I haven't seen the cartoon, but I think the movie looks interesting and I'll probably see it.

I thought it was opening on Friday.  Hmmm.

I never have understood why the release dates are so different for other countries, especially for bigger movies.  I think someone on Epinions said that Up was delayed by like 3 months last year.

Even more for country who speaks the same language. I know it was a problem here in the past since the movies had to be dub in french canadian, but I don't think it's really a problem anymore.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but is French Canadian the same as normal French? Or does it have some differences?

It's mostly the same, but we use a lot of different words and we use very few english words in it compare to the French  because of our geopolitical situation (we must fight constantly to keep the language alive).

I've spoke with some French when I was at the university and they were hard to understand. The students of the ancient African French colony were easier to understand (their french is mostly intact like ours).

Hmmmm, I wonder how those French would react to your comment. :hmmmm:

I seem to remember Up was delayed longer than that in the UK. It was certainly available on DVD long before we got it theatrically. It's just not funny.

It's just ridiculous.  Coming back on topic, I'm really not sure about this. M Night Shyamalan can't direct an action scene if his life depended on it. Unless he's found hidden depths for this or there's a choreographer, I can't see the pace being anywhere near sharp enough.

I expect to be really underwhelmed by this film. I am going into it with very low expectations. I watched every single episode of that cartoon and it was really one of the best newer cartoons I have seen. I was hooked, I don't remember the last time I was that involved with a TV show actually. The cartoon to me was pitch perfect and I doubt any live-action film could top it. Also, from the trailers I'm still unsure. I'm interested in seeing it still becuase I'm such a fan of the show, but I'm not expecting anything special. In the end I will always have the show to turn back to if the movies turns out as crap as it looks.

My mother is a great cook (just like her mother), me not that much. The real good one in the familly childs is my brother and with my sister it's hit or miss, I've eaten some really disgusting thing at her home (I mean it, one time it was some green stuff and I was the only one to clean his plate :yucky:).

I can't wait to be at my mother house for the complete month of august. Sure I'll go there to work, but the food is a better motivation than the job for me :drooling:

Ok..I couldn't remember how long it was delayed, but I knew it was a horrendously long time.

According to IMDb Up was out in May for the US, September for Australia and October for us in the UK, so a 5 month delay :(

Hmm it isn't looking good.

http://www.boston.com/ae/movies/articles/2010/06/30/airbender_loses_something_in_switch_from_cartoon_to_live_action/

I'm starting to think I might skip this one to keep the magic of that brilliant cartoon alive in my mind.
