I've added a mini review for The Prestige. Btw, both The Prestige and I Want You are movies about obsession, but the latter is a cinematic neo-noir mood piece that - while having a twist - doesn't rely on it. Still, would probably have rated slightly lower if I hadn't watched it after Nolan's failed magic trick.

The thing I love about The Prestige is, it isn't a trick. One of the first lines is "look closer", but actually, you're better off taking a step back. There is nothing failed about that film. You might not like it, but it's solid. And as with Inception, Nolan's ability to deliver intellectual stories as blockbuster entertainment is not to be sniffed at.

Watched Jason and the Argonauts.

Ray Harryhausen's animations are charming as ever and the famous final battle with the skeletons is still jaw-dropping. Sadly the story could be a little less straight forward and the acting lacks the punch needed for a string emotional investment. Maybe a love-interest for Jason would have helped :shrugs: Or just more monsters...

The film looks great on Blu, especially considering its age. The scenes with Harryhausen's creations lack sharpness for the real-life bits, but that's just how the process worked: the creatures in it look sharp and detailed.

...and I just realized that I was not very organized. First I forgot to mark The Longest Day for L, so watching Run Lola Run was unnecessary at the time I did it. Then I watched Dead or Alive even though I had already seen Donnie Darko and now I almost watched Daybreakers because I hadn't entered either one

I watched Buster Keaton's The General on Blu-ray today.

  That film is over 80 years old? Wow, what an awesome restoration. Some scenes even had "HD pop".

There were 3 soundtracks to choose from, one in 5.1 or uncompressed 2.0 alternatively. I stuck with one that was closer to how it must have sounded 80 years ago, rather than the newly composed score. I switched over a few times to see how that was, but always quickly returned to "how it should be".

It's not non-stop funny and obviously the pacing is way different than today. I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions, often to Keaton's subtle genius. The train chase is awesome and should have been the climax, but it is followed by some more scenes without it; luckily they are still funny and present more of Keaton's brilliant acting.
