Want a laugh?
« on: June 07, 2010, 03:19:40 AM »
 :hysterical:

These are the nominees for 'Best Movie' in the 2010 MTV Movie Awards.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)
Avatar (2009)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
The Hangover (2009)
New Moon (2009)

I'm not kidding... those are actually the real nominations...
I knew MTV was a bit of a joke as an award show but this really proves it.

I'm sure that the panel of 7-year olds who run the show will be very happy. It looks like Twilight is on the way to win just about everything this time round as well.

I'm sure it will.
I did like the other movies in that best movie category.

The MTV movie awards have been kind of entertaining before..but very questionable winners.

I don't think that list looks too bad... at least it looks entertaining. Most of the "prestigious" awards ceremonies are full of pretentious films, with politics often deciding the winner rather than merit.

Really Wombat... even with New Moon in the mix? Remeber that 2009 had a lot of films, yet they still think that New Moon, was better than all the other great films that didn't make it. That alone makes me think the entire thing is a joke. Which it is of course, I know it is aimed at young people who have underdeveloped film tastes. You should see the nominess for 'best male performace'. It should be more like 'best 6 pac' than best performance.

That is true too.  At least I've seen most of the movies and I did enjoy them.  Last year with the Oscars, I hadn't seen most of the movies nominated for best picture and I really don't want to see the ones I haven't already seen.

They seem to have made one right decision so far. They gave Anna Kendrick the award for Best Breakout Starfor her role in Up in the Air. She really did deserve it, that film was amazing and she was great in it. As for some of the other awards... they have a whole catagory for "Best WTF moment"...

I saw the WTF moment thing.  And some of those - like the one for Zombieland - is a bit of a spoiler for people who haven't seen the movie yet.

I'm not sure which one that is (is it Twilight 2 or 3?), but those movies, although especially the first, have wonderful cinematography. The first film was a gorgeous film, even if the "story" could have been conceived by a 13 year old girl.

In the end, these awards cater to a different demographic. Isn't this one a bit of a People's Choice, rather than say the Academy Awards which iirc is industry-voted? Each format has its cons. The former becomes a popularity contest (or simply which film had the stronger marketing campaign/fan camp) and the latter is political / who had the best bribes. Awards ceremonies are good for highlighting films, but for me, the final decision comes down to my own personal tastes.

Whoa, 'Twilight'.... "wonderful cinematography", which film were you watching? The first Twilight film was known for just awful everything, even most of the Twilight fans admit that it was poorly made.

The camera often zoomed around so much that it made the audience dizzy, it had the feeling of a homemade film that a bunch of neighbourhood kids would make for a joke, rather than an actual cinema release. Some of the camera angles used were just ridiculous, I mean going for the artsy look can sometimes work, but looking at every second shot from the ground? It can get tiring very quickly.

I was forced to see that film in the cinema by some friends, it was a very packed cinema and most people just laughed the whole time at how stupid it was. I don't know where you got 'gorgeous' from. The entire first film has some sort of blue/grey dull lighting throughout the entire thing which means I have a memory of nothing but a bland boring imagine in my memory.

New Moon the sequel was admittedly made better than the first one. The director who took over proved he actually understand how to make a film. While the actual use of camera and editing may have improved however, the acting and story just got even worse, so bad that it is almost offensive to real artists worldwide.

I should probably apologise for the above outburst. To say you hit a nerve is an understatement. There are really only two things that set me off like that, and they are animal cruelty and the Twilight series. I shall try and hide my Twilight rage on the forums in the future, it can be... uncontrollable.

Sometimes a movie just rubs us the wrong way and we are unable to concede anything that's actually good about it. I have defended Twilight a few times on this forum and even wrote a short review. I haven't seen the sequels and don't plan to, but the first one was pretty solid mainstream entertainment and I enjoyed it.

For what it's worth they were the TV BAFTA's and not the film BAFTA's last night.
