I use DVDp.... but im very behind on putting my collection in :/ im looking at other softwares... maybe even Movienizer.

...If your DVD is not there are you cant find it via the UPC .... are you looking in the right region coding and on blu-ray only? if not then :/ just go for a different release.

Here's my  :2cents: Critter:

When I was looking at cataloguing software (and the market might have changed since then), the other software mostly scraped... and generally scraped from U.S. sites. I suspect your collection is almost entirely local releases? DVD Profiler is stronger then.

Also, if something doesn't come up by barcode search, search by title. US profiles (and to a lesser extent UK & Canadian) profiles are often filled out extensively. You can download those. Also, if you download the profile you have but it lacks info, you can download an alternative version from another country and copy across the cast and crew from that.

Finally... if you get stuck, you've got pretty much everyone else here to help you if you go with DVD Profiler. ;)

That seems like a cool feature. I just tried to add my blu-ray copy of Final Fantasy Advent Children and it said it didn't exist and I would have to make the profile for it. I really can't be stuffed making a profile right now but it seemed sort of strange that this very popular film wouldn't be there. I typed out the code 5 times to be sure as well, it was certainly the right UPC.

You can try it by title too, but you're right, it isn't there! Bit of a surprise, that.

That means that so far nobody contributed this UPC/EAN to the database.
Provided that you follow the contribution rules, you can do that!
We should keep in mind that the dvd profiler database is cultivated by the users!

Howto:
You could download any existing profile of this movie and change the media type, EAN/UPC and everything what is necessary.
Then, you could keep this new profile local or contribute to the database (according to the rules).

Okay so I downloaded the trial versions of both Profiler and Movie Collector and added all my blu-rays into each one as a trial. I only have 6 blu-rays so this didn't take too long.

Basically I liked Movie Collector better for the visual style of the program and I also just liked it's ease of use and general layout better. However, I found it very difficult in Collector to find the exact title that I have, and ended up a couple of times just selecting a copy of the movie that I don't own just to put it in.

With Profiler I didn't like the system of actually adding the films as much as the other, but I did like that it mostly (apart from 1) actually had the films that I own... and the versions that I own of them.

Like Wombat said if I get stuck with DVDP there are a lot here who can help me with it, so with that I will probably stick with DVDP. I will just have to get used to the layout of it and how to use it. By the way is there an option to view all your films in thumbnails?

Yes there is a thumbnail view of your list.  There's also a way to display them such that they look like they are sitting on shelves (including reflections).

Click on any title in your list and then right click and select "View as Thumbnails".

As Hal said, yes there is an option for thumbnails. As to overall layout, there are user-generated layouts you can apply, as well as adjusting the standard (or one of these custom layouts) to suit your preferences.

I'm slowly getting used to it. There have been a few films that I couldn't find my exact copy of though which is annoying. I have just selected something that is similar though.

How do I add boxsets?

If the boxset is in the database (and set up as a boxset), just add the top-level profile (parent) and you will be prompted to add the rest (children).

If it hasn't been set up as a boxset, add all the elements you wish to have. Then edit the parent. In there is a section for boxsets. Simply select the children in there (you search your collection from there).
