Okay I am downloading DVDP for a trial now. I have a funny feeling in the back of my mind that I have downloaded the free trial of this before, but I can't see it anywhere on my computer so I will give it a go anyway. Who knows, maybe I dreamt it.

As far as I can see, the profiler seems to be currently the best solution to manage a dvd collection. The (user) plugins make this software even better!

Speaking for me personally, I like the profiler. I use it since 2007 when I changed from a simple MS Access database. But this does not mean, that I'm married with the profiler - from time to time I'm looking for alternatives...  ;)

Profiler is the only program I've used.  I've used it for several years now..I'm not sure how long.

I am looking occasionally too. But since I already paid for Profiler and most others actually charge you repeatedly it is hard to let go.

On the other hand, the proprietary database has big advantages over those scraping Amazon, etc. Anyone know of others that use their own database?

DVD Profiler is the only(!) program that I need to run Windows in a virtual environment for. If I found a proper, acceptable solution for OS X I'd be willing to reconsider a switch.

I used it since 2004 and it was the first one I tried (pick the first link that Google gave me). Because of the oldness of my previous computer (Pentium 120, don't laugh it was a great one when I bought it) it was a pain in the ass to use it (very slow), but it was doing everything I wanted. Of course it was the free 2.4 version, but I bought the 3.0 version the day it was announced on the old InterVocative forum. With a new computer and this to play with it was great... Never looked for something else since than.

Of course I use DVDP the way I want to and I don't rely on its database...

Just for the fun of it :

DVDP 2.4

DVDP 3.6

You can even create your own one if you want (movie I really don't want to get, movie rented, view at theatre,...)

That seems like a cool feature. I just tried to add my blu-ray copy of Final Fantasy Advent Children and it said it didn't exist and I would have to make the profile for it. I really can't be stuffed making a profile right now but it seemed sort of strange that this very popular film wouldn't be there. I typed out the code 5 times to be sure as well, it was certainly the right UPC.

And since the last version(s) you can enter "custom media types". That means you can use the profiler for VHS, games, beer or other collections!  ;D

I find it amazing that with each new version Ken adds some new features I didn't expect but find rather useful.

One of the key features for me is the tracking when I watched the DVDs.

Do you mean the "watched by" feature? This is indeed a very useful. It helps me a lot, especially when I'm watching tv series.

I haven't figured out creating your own list yet.  Though I haven't checked on it much yet.
