Weekend Movie Marathon: Unwatched DVDs

Weekend Movie Marathon
Unwatched DVDs
By the time Christmas was over I had over 600 unwatched movies on DVD. I was able to get this number down to 596 before today. That is an awful lot of DVDs that I have in my unwatched pile. So I really want to work on my unwatched DVDs. This don't necessarily mean I never seen the movie. Just that I haven't watched it since I got the DVD. Though I can say that most of them I never seen before.

Below is a very long list of the 596 movies I have in my unwatched pile. I know I can't put much of a dent in it over the next 3 days... but I would love to get it under 590.

As usual... if you see a movie in the list that you would like to see me watch. Whether it is a favorite of yours and would like to see my thoughts on it... or if it is one you never seen but are curious about. Feel free to mention it. I can't promise I will get to it... but I will try.

Extras:

My Thoughts:
I thought I would start this weekend with a horror movie. From the very beginning I had trouble getting into this movie. Both the audio and video left a lot to be desired. It was like watching an old video tape version on a bad tape that was used a dozen times before. Making it right hard to watch and understand. Also at 41 minutes... extremely short for a movie. Between the quality and the length it was pretty difficult to follow. Though I liked the idea of the story... it should have been given more time to explain the story better.... and much more care of film was needed. Though the quality did improve some off and on through the movie... it really is in bad shape.

My Rating:

If your into horror today - I'd be interested in your thoughts on American Psycho or Ichi the Killer.

Marathon Man is a "must see". In fact, I think I want to put this one at the top of the list.

If you watch a movie with Brit - Willow is the one I want to know what you think.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is one you might like to see together too.

Star Wars .

Title: Coach of the Year
Year: 1980
Director: Don Medford
Rating: NR
Length: 96 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1

Stars:
Robert Conrad
Erin Gray
Red West
Daphne Maxwell
David Hubbard
Ricky Paul

Plot:
A former Chicago Bears star who was paralyzed during the Vietnam conflict agrees to be the coach of a reform school's football team with the hope of making a difference in the kid's lives.

Extras:
Scene Access

My Thoughts:
This is a TV movie that came in the Family Pack 20 movie boxset. It is far from the best football movie I ever seen... but it is worth checking out. It is good enough to keep your interest throughout the movie. Erin Gray had a smaller part in it then I was hoping for. But I guess that is to be expected since she did this movie the same time she was doing Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Over all a good one... but not one I would go out of my way to see.

Title: Dragon Fighter
Year: 2002
Director: Phillip Roth
Rating: R
Length: 89 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo, Spanish: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles: N/A

Stars:
Dean Cain
Kristine Byers
Robert Zachar
Marcus Aurelius
Robert Ditillio
Vessela Dimitrova

Plot:
We thought they were just a fairy tale. We were wrong. In an underground bunker, military scientists clone a deadly fire-breathing dragon. The beast rapidly grows to full size and escapes, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. For security chief David Carver (Dean Cain), the only goal is keeping the most fearsome predator to ever walk the Earth from destroying it. For the rest of mankind, the goal is survival.

Extras:
Scene Access
Feature Trailers

My Thoughts:
This is a direct to video release. I find the storyline interesting... but the movie itself is no more then an average sci-fi/horror fair. They keep using a split screen quite a bit... which takes away from the story for me. I do like Dean Cain... who I know of from Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. I got mixed reactions on how they did the dragon itself... in some scenes it looked really cool. But in other scenes it looked on the cheesy side. I did get a kick out of how they did away with the dragon. Not a bad way to waste an hour and a half... but not something I would go out of my way to watch.

I'm kind of disappointed that Dean Cain seems to have pretty much disappeared since his days on Lois & Clark.  I really liked him in that...especially as Clark.  Of course, Teri Hatcher found work in another series...but both actors to play Jimmy Olsen in that have also fallen into the black hole of former series regulars...  :-\

My Thoughts:
I knew Jimmy was wanting this review... and I figured I better get it out of the way before Britt got home (she is coming home today... a day earlier then expected). So I popped this one in first thing this morning. I still not sure exactly how I feel about this one. Sure... the women was beautiful. But at the same time this one felt really dated to me. Not only the look and feel of the movie... but Vixen's ideals as well. This is just not the type of thing I usually watch... and it felt a little off to me. Vixen is just filled with hate and infidelity.... and even incest. Which made her extremely ugly to me.... no matter of her physical appearance. And that is just something I personally don't like to see. Sorry Jimmy... I know this is one of your favorites... but it left me feeling disappointed as it goes against values I see important in life. I do not think I am the type of person to get into the sexploitation movies. Other then that visuals... the scenery... and yes the women was definitely worth looking at.

You took it in the first degree that's why you didn't like it. Russ Meyer did this after the boxoffice failure of Faster Pussycat and this is why the movie is so extreme. He just show to the public what they wanted to see with a in your face attitude. Of course it's dated Pete the movie was made 42 years ago, 2 years before I was born.

I'm a little bit deceived you didn't like it but not surprise. It's only a movie the incest isn't real, the racism isn't real and the infidelity isn't real. Movies with torture and excessive violence with no reason are far more against my values and I watch and enjoy some of them (I just don't let my oppinion interfere with my watching).

BTW never try Teenage Twins, The Taming of Rebecca or The Farmer's Daughter...

Oh I know that stuff isn't real. It is just the stuff that hits me harder and in a different way then the excessive violence and torture. I am just much more sensitive to the other stuff is all.

My Thoughts:
I went into this one with a bit of mixed feelings. First I really enjoyed the first one... so was hopeful that I would like this one as well. Then I noticed this one has Rob Lowe in it. That is the first sign that I may not think too much for this one. Well I figured I will go ahead and give it a go... and if worse comes... at least I got it cheap. I got this one at the local Big Lots for only $3. I think going into this movie expecting the worse helped. As while it is far from a great ghost story... I found myself enjoying it for what it is. Sure it is a step back from the original. But it is still a decent story with some cool scenes and just a bit of gore added in for good measures.
