"Much better than Kick-Ass" is most definitely false advertising.

Agreed. I liked it, but it is nowhere near Kick-Ass in my mind as well. But that cover is actually much better than that of the US release. Then again, maybe the US cover is the one the movie deserves

I received today:
Cannibal Holocaust

I am aware that a US release is in the works which will probably be uncut. I consciously decided to go for the BBFC version though, which is cut by 12 seconds (IIRC), taking out a lingering shot of actual animal torture.

Not really cut, but it has been substituted so instead of the footage BBFC wanted removed, you get actors reactions to what has happened. The Shameless release also has a new Deodato animal cruelty free cut. We reviewed it at Rewind (in-depth):

Among the recent not-really-superheroes stuff (Defendor, Kick-Ass, Super, Boy Wonder), the one that I actually liked even better than Kick-Ass is the Australian Griff the Invisible, starring Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse of True Blood). It aims for something a bit different though and it's firmly PG-13, so not sure if you would like it.

Both better than the UK cover that I got:

Interesting is the review of "Super" by "Half in the Bag".
There you can see the point of view of someone, who first saw "Super" and then Kick-Ass. He thinks that "Super" is better and I can see where he is coming from. Personally I agree with you that Kick-Ass is better. But maybe it is really because I saw it before "Super".

I understood they actually cut 12 seconds
(click to show/hide)

The version where animal killings are replaced by reverse angles is Deodato's updated cut.

It will be my first time seeing this film.
