Topic: What'ya got 2007-2013?

	Dans Paris (FR 2006, AKA Inside Paris) R2-UK Artificial Eye (2007) I really enjoyed Christophe Honoré's Les chansons d'amour, so I got his previous film as well.
	Franklyn (UK 2008) R2-UK E1 Entertainment (Jun 22, 2009) Reviews were mixed for this, but I have a hunch that I will like it.

	Superman: The Last Son of Krypton (£3.08 at Amazon.co.uk) I remember liking these introduction to the series.
	Grave of the Fireflies (£7.95 at Amazon.co.uk) I have never seen this anime classic.
	Krrish (€14 at Amazon.de) My first Bollywood movie. Reason for buying: It's a superhero movie

Today I got the package from our good friend Roger. If it would have only arrived one day sooner I could have watched a classic horror or two. Now those titles will have to wait till October. 

Anyway.. here is what he sent me. The titles in RED are ones I never seen before.


Bela Lugosi Collection: Scared to Death / The Devil Bat
I never seen either of these movies before. But I have to admit I have enjoyed Bela Lugosi in most of the movies I have seen of his so far... so looking forward to checking these out.


From Hell
This one I actually have a copy of already. But my sis-in-law is a big fan of Johnny Depp... and I don't think she has this one yet... so it will probably be going to her.


Forty Guns
Really don't know much of anything about this one. I did notice this one is only 79min long... which at least in my collection is a rare thing. Most all the westerns I own is on the long side.


The Return of the Magnificent Seven
Once again I really don't know anything about this one. Though I have heard of the Magnificent Seven movies... In never seen any of them.


Wyatt Earp
Now this one... not only have I heard of it... I been wanting to see it for some time now. I am thinking of doing a Kevin Costner double feature... and watch this one as well as Open Range one day.


Drums of Fu Manchu
one of three classic movie serials Roger sent me. I don't know anything about this one... but it does sound like it could be a good one.


The Return of Chandu
Another old time movie serial... and one I know absolutely nothing about... but it does sound good going by the back cover.


White Zombie
This one I have seen before... and have a terrible PD release of it. When I tried to watch it I couldn't stand it... but I think that is because the film was in such terrible shape on that DVD. So I will look forward to giving it another chance on a disc with better transfer. I see on the spine of this DVD it is Vol. 1 of the Horror Classics Collection.


The Bat / House on Haunted Hill: Vincent Price Collection
This is vol. 3 of the horror classics collection. I have and enjoyed House on Haunted Hill... it is one of my favorite Vincent Price movies. But I don't remember ever seeing The Bat... so it will be cool to see a Vincent Price movie I never seen before.


The Gorilla / Nabonga
2 more in the Horror Classics Collection (this one is Vol. 6)... and 2 more movies I never seen before. The Gorilla stars Bela Lugosi... along with The Ritz Brothers... who I am not familiar at all with. Nabonga stars Buster Crabbe... who if I am not mistaken played Flash Gordon in a couple of the old movie serials.


S.O.S Costguard
This is another movie serial that I have never seen. It stars Bela Lugosi in a non-horror role as well as Ralph Byrd who played Dick Tracy in another old movie serial.


Electra Woman and Dyna Girl
This is a bootleg dvd of a kid show back from my day that I watched as a kid. I am sure it will be very cheesy. But I am looking forward to seeing it again. This is apparently the first 4 (of 8 produced) episodes. Now normally I do not condone bootleg DVDs... and won't put my money to them... but I can see complaining about them if they are just given to me... though if an official release was to come out I would buy it to replace this DVD.

Also in this package was a 4 part comic book series where The Justice League joins forces with The Avengers... so that will be a lot of fun as well.

First of all I want to thank you once again for sending these to me... I really appreciate them! I also wanted to ask you a question... on The Return of Chandu and The Return of The Magnificent Seven... I was wondering if I need to see The Magnificent Seven first... and if there is another seria of Chandu I should try to watch before this one?

You are totally welcome, Pete, and I'm glad to see that they arrived safely.  I have not yet seen The Return of the Magnificent Seven myself so I don't know if you need to see the first one...but the first one is an all-time classic so you should definitely try to catch that sometime anyway.  I'm sure the movie you have will explain everything you need to know.  I'm also not sure if there even was another earlier Chandu movie...there may have been, but if there was it may not even have starred Bela Lugosi.  (I just glanced at a list of sound movie serials and can't see any title in there that looks like an earlier Chandu movie.)  So happy viewing

After what Pete got, my paltry one item received is small potatoes indeed...

Westbound arrived for me today...this is a Randolph Scott western and is the last one I needed of the 7 movies he did together with director Budd Boetticher. So now I can have a Randy & Budd week. Or I can wait and get a few more and have a Randy month as I think I now have 27 movies of his, including two he did with John Wayne. This movie is part of Warner Brothers' Archive Collection but unfortunately has absolutely no extras. It is a nice print, though.

How flexible are you on the Western genre, Roger? Because I wondered if you'd seen The Seven Samurai which The Magnificent Seven was based on. Subtitled Japanese, but well worth the effort, because Akira Kurosawa loved Westerns and you can tell. I was reminded when you mentioned it there, but I've also just posted a review for Knives of the Avenger, an Italian Viking story that's really a Western, based on Leone's Fistful of Dollars and Shane of all things!

I have a copy of Seven Samurai but haven't watched it yet.  I like my westerns to be set in the proper place and time.  Outland was a western, too, if you're going to be that liberal about it...I think it was like a reworking of High Noon, wasn't it?  It's been awhile since I've seen it but that seems about right.

Land of the Lost: The Complete Series

I already had season 1 in my collection... but unfortunately right after I got it all 3 season sets went OOP. So when I saw this set I jumped at it to be able to complete the series. Brittany likes the show a lot too... so I gave her my season 1 set.

Koi... mi gaya (€9.74 at Amazon.de) I enjoyed Krrish, and I got curious with the references to the movie which preceeded it. I also fear, that if I like this one as well, that the Bollywood bug could bite me. I have watched the musical interludes of Krrish (which are available as extra on the DVD) three times so far and I even bought one of the songs on iTunes and have listened to it quite a few times

On the way to the hospital with my mother today (appointment/transfusion) I stopped by Walmart and picked up a couple DVDs out of the bargain bin. One being a boxset of Westerns...
