Just finished Fight Club.

I absolutely, freakin' loved the first hour. This film had such potential, and then it was like someone pulled the plug in the tub.

Everything that was creative and fresh in the first hour was replaced with a ridiculous underlying story about an army of Durden clones and a split personality.

Suddenly, all coherency in the screenplay was gone. It was if the screenwriter couldn't figure out how to keep it on track and sold out.

Too bad, if it had stayed on course, this could have easily cracked my top 10 of all time. 3/5

Just finished Synecdoche, New York, if you were to ask me how I liked it at the halfway point, I would have told you it was one of the worst films I've ever seen. But now after it ended, I'm starting to think this is an exceptional film.

Quality choices! Have you ventured into the British crime thriller before, Antares?

I just love the start of Long Good Friday. That theme pounding away and Hoskins striding along through the airport. Bloody superb. And Caine in Get Carter is something to behold. "You're a big man, but you're out of shape. With me, it's full time."

Not as much as I would like to. I've seen 4 of Guy Richie's films, and a few films with Stanley Baker from the late 50's & early 60's.

Then really you've seen the two extremes. The 70s and 80s was the sweet spot, though Sexy Beast is an excellent modern entry. Sir Ben Kinsgley, that nice bloke who played Ghandi? He'll scare the shit out of you in that movie!

Payback: Straight Up (Director's Cut) might be better than Point Blank, but I haven't seen the Lee Marvin one in years. And based on the same book, so not really a remake.

Surely you prefer The Magnificent Seven to that obscure Japanese rubbish?

Me too, or I would have named an example. But I think it must be out there. Maybe we don't realize it's a remake immediatley, since noone remember the original...

You know that Criterion's Blu-ray is coming in October...? I am awfully tempted to upgrade, even I have watched the DVD only once so far.
