I've never seen
Alien
.
After watching
Ghostbusters
yesterday I thought to give it a try since I can't recall ever seeing anything with S. Weaver in which I didn't like her (even if the rest of the movie wasn't that good).
Alien doesn't seem to be out on Blu-ray yet. But Amazon UK has the whole
quadrilogy
for 10 pounds and I'm wonderin if it's worth it.
Thoughts? Accusations? Outrage?

It's worth it if nothing else for the 1st two movies. Certainly at that price it's a no loose situation as I see it.

I payed 3 or 4 times that much for the quadrilogy and that was a bargain even at that price - I've watched them all many times. And, yes I even like the last one!

I don't know about the quality of those Blu-rays, but it sounds like a good deal.
Like Kathy, I enjoyed all 4. The last two might not be great, but they were entertaining. And 4 was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, one of my favorites. So I almost had to like that one!
And of course #3 was by David Fincher. Strange, the last two had good directors, but for some reason they're not the greatest films anyway.

The Quadrilogy is definitely not blu-ray, that is DVD only as of now. The blu-ray set is apparently finished though and should be out some time later this year. I would personally hold out on HD if I were you, though if you plan to see all four films than the purchase is pretty much the equivalent of paying to rent those, especially considering you get all of the special features discs as well (which are actually better than a couple of the films themselves).
As far as the films go, the first two are as good as sci-fi gets. The third one is mediocre but has some great moments and the fourth is a guilty pleasure of mine but does not really fit within the series, not to mention it was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet

Echoing Filmincarnate, the first two are superb. Alien is one of the best sci-fi's, considering the detail of what is without a doubt the deadliest and most authentic movie monster ever and the grubby quality of the Nostromo. And it plays like a haunted house. Aliens is awesome, a perfect action movie (the end sequence is still my favourite of any action film). Part 3 is a noble effort, but largely junk and part 4 is horrendous. Ok as a sci-fi movie, bloody awful as an Alien.
I've literally just read in the new Empire mag about the Blu's. Looks like a marvellous set with one of the producers calling it a "geekgasm" for extras, dwarfing even the impressive Quadrilogy. Quality is superb apparently and they've even got a new sound mix for part 3, going so far as to recall some cast for recording.
But less than a tenner? Karsten, it is simply essential. Much as I detest part 4, the extras are superb. And I have to say it seems to be getting some love, so what do I know?

No shame in that. There's too many films out there to have seen everything.
The shame is in not
correcting
that!
