While in Hong Kong two days ago I upgraded these two from DVD to Blu-ray:

Rok 'N' Roll High School
Death Race 2000

Too bad they didn't have any others; since I was in the mood to spend money :bag:

The store doesn't really stock anything except mainstream Hollywood s*** now... Kind of sad for the independant label who release the better stuff. Some years ago it was easy to find those but thanks to the unwanted BR they have no place anymore :(

Of course we can order online, but not being in the real store hurts the sales number since it had less consumers and less impulsive buying...
I don't even talk about the almost disparition of the video clubs that are replace by online service who buy at max 5 copy of not Hollywood stuff...

Well, we are talking about HMV here... I wouldn't expect much different. ;)

I knew a few smaller shops in Hong Kong before, who would carry more off-beat stuff as well, but they have moved to I-don't-know-where. Additionally the problem is, while technically the same region for Blu-ray, it is still in a different area with different requirements (e.g. Chinese subtitles), is I am lucky to find US releases. Like I said in another post, for example for Kick-Ass they only had the Hong Kong release, which appeared rather bare bones to me.

It's weird since in my city this is only at HMV that I can see the Shout! Factory or Blue Underground titles, but they are too costly (even with a sales HMV can't compete with amazon). Archambault had the biggest choice but 98% of this choice had no interest to me, but it's possible to order in the store wich was usefull before I got my credit card (but god they were not fast...)

Are the Blu-ray sales bad...? After the initial 7 (the bigger films, at that) it seems they no longer add Blu-rays to the line-up  :headscratch:

Sorry to be a bad news carrier :(

This is a resume of what Cliff and Brian Ward had said about that

Not all the titles are on Blu-Ray for three reasons :

1. It cost 45000$ to make a good remastering HD job (so they must choose wisely),
2. some film would look like shit on HD (most of the films were shoot cheap and no one want to see the result on HD),
3. the Blue-Ray sales number aren't that great for the independant label.

Now back to me  ;D

But I can tell you that Battle Beyond the Stars will be release on Blu-Ray next year
Don't forget the regular dvd look great also (except for DeathSport who is a composite)

Thanks Jimmy; you will not be shot

I just would like to get them all in the same format. Worst case scenario: I buy a particular title on DVD and then the Blu-ray is announced :slaphead: I'll think about it.

Don't worry for that since I'm sure at 99.5% (I need a certain marge of error just in case) that the titles who aren't already in BR will never be (at least in this collection). This is what Cliff had said not so long ago about this

A new Corman's release equals new screen capture (see Achim I don't forget you )

Those are from the new StarCrash DVD, since I don't own a Blue-Ray reader

Of course, I can't forget our German friends ;D

BTW it's a great movie, sure it's silly but it's a lot more enjoyable than Star Wars that is suppose to be the model for this movie.

Can't wait to watch her interview on the second dvd (can you believe it take a full dvd for it), but I must listen the 2 comentary tracks and the rest of the extras on the first disc before.

Thanks Jimmy, much appreciated.

I read two reviews for Star Crash. One was all serious and consequently gave it a bad rating. The other one understood how to look at this film (as camp...) and therefore the reviewer had lots of fun with it. He still gave it a low rating, as it is a bad film, but his written review ended with "Highly Recommended"
