Didn't they learn their lesson...
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:37:20 PM »
...when they remade The Ladykillers and it tanked?

Coen brothers are re-making True Grit.

Coens + remakes = shiite

Good grief, if I have to type this up one more time, I shall scream! :slaphead: :suicide:

 :tease:

It's not a remake really. True Grit was based on a book and like many such adaptations, changed a lot. The Coen's are returning to the source... Wikipedia

The Ladykillers was a straight [terrible] remake. This should be more interesting at least and following on from No Country for Old Men, possibly superb.

As Jon said it isn't truly a remake, but a different adaptation like The Thing from another world VS The Thing. Not that I will see it probably...

Change your original equation like that and it's always true.

Coens + remakes = shiite

I stand corrected, I just heard about this and could not believe my eyes when I read it.

But also, after reading the Variety article footnoted in the Wiki page, if the Coens stay true to the novel, it will surely tank. That was all well and good back in the mid-60's, but it 'won't play in Peoria'. Biblical references and Mattie being the main focus will doom the film.

I myself would relish the concept, but an audience today will be turned off.

Sorry if I came over a bit strong! Roger mentioned it in a thread the other day, so I replied as above. Then in the same thread someone else mentioned it two pages later, so... ditto. Then you go and start a new thread, just to wind me up!

The Coen's have always had a limited audience. Especially on here. Just ask Matthias (Goodguy)! Re-making 3:10 to Yuma more biblical sort of worked and as Emma says, if it's more Old Men than Ladykillers and in fact, more Old Men than Lebowski, it could be a gem.

Apropos the Dude:
Brandon Hardesty uploaded a video today, where he reenacted a scene of The Big Lebowski based on a script rewrite (where someone rewrote the script as if it was written by Shakespeare)

This actually is the rewrite the reenactment was based on.

I'm interested in seeing another Coen brothers novel adaption. No Country was amazing, I saw it twice in the cinema and it was a stunning film both times.
