Title: The Wicker Man
Year: 1973
Director: Robin Hardy
Rating: R
Length: 88 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1, English: Dolby Digital Mono
Subtitles:

Stars:
Edward Woodward

Ingrid Pitt

Plot:
When a young girl mysteriously disappears, Police Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward of THE EQUALIZER) travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate. But this pastoral community, led by the strange Lord Summerisle (a brilliant performance by the legendary Christopher Lee), is not what it seems as the devout Christian detective soon uncovers a secret society of wanton lust and pagan blasphemy. Can Howie now stop the cult's ultimate sacrifice before he himself comes face-to-face with the horror of THE WICKER MAN?

Britt Ekland, Diane Cilento and Ingrid Pitt co-star in this provocative shocker written by Anthony Schaffer (SLEUTH, FRENZY) that fans and critics worldwide still consider a true cult classic and a modern horror masterpiece. This is the acclaimed U.S. theatrical version of THE WICKER MAN, now fully restored from original vault materials for the first time ever.

Extras:
Scene Access
Trailers
Featurettes
Production Notes
Radio Spots

My Thoughts:
First let me say I appreciate Achim sending this movie to me. But with that said... this movie really wasn't my thing. I found it to be very strange. And there was just too much singing for my taste... and not just singing... but singing for what seems to be no reason. Sure there was the appeal of the scenes of nudity.... but a movie needs more then that. The storyline of the missing girl had possibilities... but the rest of it was so weird that I lost interest in that storyline pretty early. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this type of movie and may have better luck at another time. But I just couldn't make it through it this time around.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Wow, even I didn't rate it that bad. I'm sure you will get a scolding from Jon.  :P

Nope.  :P You see, I'm just pleased that Pete would even try a film like this, but really I never felt like it was one he'd like. For one, the music was bound to piss him off! The silliness and weirdness is supposed to cause revulsion, as it does in Edward Woodward, but still there is no getting away from the fact that what you are watching is silly and weird. Still, not all five-star masterpieces can expect to get the correct rating everytime! :tease: ;)

Is there any singing in the remake? If not... chances are pretty good I would like it better!  :tease:

You are, of course, wrong.

I dare you to watch the sequel!

But that somehow remebers me of the times when I got scoldings for picking movies that the others in  the group didn't like. One was 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is not what a group of teenagers will embrace and the other one was Assault on Precinct 13.

I didn't know, but the remake of The Wicker Man must have been on TV last night. Nick Frost was watching and Tweeted...

Quote from: Nickjfrost
"I'm watching it in a mirror to negate it's effects."

Edgar Wright didn't think that would be enough...

Quote from: Edgarwright
"@nickjfrost You have to watch the original immediately afterwards to negate the effects. You have to watch it twice. Will be a long night."

A friend at work watched it too and was shaking his head in disbelief at how bad it was. He told me one of the "twists". I had no idea it was that bad! I may have to watch it now... :hysterical:

I'm at work and didn't have time to put across just how utterly shite this "plot" is! ;)
