Horror Related Series Marathon?
« on: December 20, 2009, 08:41:43 PM »
I was thinking I am wanting to work on a horror related series... but I really have no idea what I am in the mood to watch. I was also figuring on reviewing each episode as I been doing a lot of here lately... so thought I would ask if there is anything here anyone would like to read my views on?

Angel
Angel (David Boreanaz), the dashing demon from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," embarks on his own supernatural adventures in Los Angeles. City of Angels. City of Broken Dreams. Between pervasive evil and countless temptations lurking beneath the city's glittery facade, L.A. is the ideal address for a fallen vampire looking to save a few lost souls and, in turn, perhaps redeem his own.

Blood Ties
After witnessing a horrific demonic murder at the side of a Toronto roadway, private investigator Vicki Nelson finds herself on a collision course with another citizen investigating the case. He is Henry Fitzroy – former Duke of Richmond, cutting-edge graphic novelist and 470-year-old vampire. To solve the brutal murder, Vicki finds herself collaborating, against her better judgment, with the suave and seductive Fitzroy. The relationship soon progresses beyond a purely professional arrangement, complicating her long-term love affair with ex-partner Detective Mike Celluci.....and pretty well everything else in her life.

Dracula: The Series
For centuries he has ruled the night, inspiring dozens of plays, scores of movies and millions of nightmares. His enduring legend is known and feared everywhere. Now, Dracula seeks global domination as Alexander Lucard, international billionaire power broker, who is relentlessly building a hi-tech network of white-collar vampires. Two young American brothers know his secret (and his weaknesses!) as they join their uncle – a lifelong vampire chaser – to follow the trail across Europe and the U.S. in a desperate race to expose Lucard and his undead army of corporate vampires. The hunters become the prey as Lucard seeks to eliminate their threat to his eternal conquest.

Forever Knight
In 1992, CBS premiered FOREVER KNIGHT, a stylish and sexy television series. An immediate cult sensation, the series chronicled the journeys of Nicholas Knight (Geraint Wyn Davies), an ancient vampire from the thirteenth century living in present-day Toronto.

After centuries of sinful bloodshed, Nicholas Knight has forsaken immortality and is determined to reclaim his humanity. He now spends his nights as a homicide detective with his smug partner, Donald Schanke, fighting the city's most brutal crimes. Joining in Nicholas' quest is Dr. Natalie Lambert, a brilliant forensic scientist, who is inching closer to the cure for his supernatural condition. The master vampire Lucien LaCroix, however, will stop at nothing to ensure that Nicholas remains a vampire. In his darkest moments, Nicholas turns to the lovely vampire Janette, who offers him unconditional loyalty despite her prominent standing in the vampire underworld.

As the stakes get higher and his path to redemption becomes burdened with temptations, Nicholas valiantly sets out to conquer his curse night by night.

Friday the 13th: The Series
Make a Date With Death....
as Friday the 13th - The Series makes its chilling debut on DVD with all 26 wickedly good first-season episodes on 6 discs! When two distant cousins inherit the strange "Curious Goods" antique shop, they soon discover that their deceased uncle paid the ultimate price for the hexed items in the store: his soul was claimed by Satan. Now, it' up to them and an eccentric antiques dealer to find each diabolical item sold from the store before it manifests it's evil powers. Open the door to true terror with the series that's crawling with psychological suspense and spine-tingling mysteries you won't want to miss!

The Hunger
Terence Stamp hosts the first season of this spine-tingling horror anthology series from Executive Producers Tony and Ridley Scott, which features a phenomenal cast of familiar faces as you've never seen them before. Inspired by leading genre writers, each episode will draw you into a mesmerizing world of terrifying characters and erotic encounters, where demons feed on the weaknesses of men and temptation consumes reason.

Kindred: The Embraced
Enter the dangerous and sexy world of the undead when vampires clash with mortals and each other in a modern-day San Francisco. Five clans of vampires are known as the KINDRED, and in their terrifying embrace, one becomes forever young...forever beautiful...forever doomed.

From the savagery in the premiere to the chilling climactic finale, the KINDRED draws you into a mysterious realm of Mafia wars, forbidden liaisons and inhuman hunger in a spellbinding saga of erotic danger and unworldly suspense!

NOTE: Only Lasted 8 episodes

Miracles
Paul Callan (Skeet Ulrich) is an investigator of modern miracles whose own faith becomes tested with each new mundane explanation.

Then something happens that changes everything.

A young boy with the power to heal saves Paul’s life — and pays for it with his own. But before the boy dies, they both see the words "God Is Now Here" written in Paul’s blood, launching Paul on an odyssey of paranormal investigation and spiritual awakening.

Paul finds a kindred spirit in a former Harvard professor turned investigator of the occult (Angus Macfadyen), who opens Paul’s eyes to the growing number of "strange occurrences" that may signal a much more sinister revelation.

Teaming up with a former police officer (Marisa Ramirez), these investigators explore the unexplained and try to find a solution to the coming "darkness" before it's too late.

Moonlight
Any private eye knows a lot about other people's secrets. L.A. private eye Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) has a secret of his own. He's a vampire, dwelling in a covert netherworld complicated by friendship with an undead finance honcho (Jason Dohring), memories of the alluring ex-wife (Shannyn Sossamon) who turned him into a vampire, and a relationship with a human (Sophia Myles) he feels drawn to protect – and maybe to love. But no matter how tempting, Mick knows a vampire-human romance is eternally dangerous.

Night Stalker
Carl Kolchak returns in a new series of spine-tingling adventures. Produced by the X-Files' Frank Spotnitz and based on the original '70s suspense drama, Night Stalker updates the chilling classic in a startling new way. "There's something stylishly scary at work here," says The New York Times.

Caught up in an obsessive hunt for his own wife's murderer, Kolchak (Stuart Townsend) discovers that his imagination is no match for the evil that truly lurks in the dark. Paired with skeptic Perri Reed (Gabrielle Union), television's favorite crime reporter will stop at nothing to uncover the supernatural side of the night.

Featuring four episodes never seen on TV that complete the series and a host of exclusive bonus material, this 2-disc DVD set is so good it's scary.

Point Pleasant
When a violent summer storm slams into the beach town of Point Pleasant, it brings with it the unconscious body of Christina Nickson. Rescued from the surf and taken to the home of a nearby doctor, the teenager is strangely reluctant to have anyone contact her family. For all her life, Christina has felt surrounded by a sense of wrongness, and now she’s determined to figure out why. Yet the longer Christina stays in Point Pleasant, the greater the supernatural and deadly impact she has on the people around her—an impact that is destined to lead to the ultimate confrontation between good and evil.

The Ray Bradbury Theater
Entranced by magicians, comic strips and science fiction magazines, Ray Bradbury began "educating" himself at the Los Angeles Library three to five times a week. By 27 years of age he "graduated," having written several million words. In his early twenties, he supported himself by selling newspapers on street corners and writing for radio programs such as Suspense, Escape, CBS Radio Playhouse, and X Minus One. Bradbury has now written over three thousand short stories – 400 of which have been published in such magazines as The New Yorker, the New Republican, The Saturday Evening Post, Amazing Stories, Colliers, Dime Detective, and McCall's. He has also written for Alfred Hitchcock Presents and for Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone.

Supernatual
THE CREEPY. THE DEMENENTED. THE UNEXPLAINED. THE UNEARTHLY.
Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) grew up hunting such terrifying things. But that's all in the past. Law school beckons him. So do safety and normalcy. That is, until Sam's estranged brother Dean (Jensen Ackles) appears with troubling news: their father, a man who's been hunting evil for 22 years, has disappeared. So now, to find him, the brothers must hunt what their father hunts... and Sam must return to the life he thought he'd left behind.

Hold on tight (and keep the lights on!) for all 22 Season One Episodes of the edgy, hip series that has viewers in its grip and critics enthralled. Share the suspense as Sam and Dean travel back roads and highways using the secret skills their father taught them to confront a nightmare array of spirits. Witness the 'Supernatural'!

Tales from the Crypt
Rest your bones, boos and ghouls, and settle in for the anthology series you've been dying to see: the complete six-episode first season of Tales From The Crypt!

Cadaverous scream legend/all-around punster the Crypt Keeper hosts these forays of fright and fun based on classic E.C. Comics tales from back in the day -- and drawing on the talents of top filmmakers Richard Donner, Walter Hill, Joel Silver, Robert Zemeckis and others. So belly up to the bar and name your poison. Is it a deranged Santa on a personal slay ride? A man surgically implanted with as many lives (and deaths) as a cat? Honeymooners who each want the other to fulfill the 'til-death vow pronto? These and more terror-rific tales await. Ghoul love 'em!

Tales from the Darkside
Tales from the Darkside, the uniquely terrifying, frighteningly popular horror anthology series, is back. Packed with haunting stories that at first light appear to be about normal situations, these tales are gradually twisted until they become something sinister, shocking and totally unsettling.

Revealing the dark underworld of our everyday existence, Tales from the Darkside includes stories penned by masters of horror, with unforgettable performances by some of Hollywood's finest stars.

Dark, scary and with a bizarre sense of justice, all 24 episodes of Tales from the Darkside's spine-tingling first season will capture your imagination...and never let it go.

I didn't know that Forever Knight has a DVD release.
Is it the "Forever Knight Trilogy" releases I just found? Do these include all 72 episodes?

I voted for Miracles because I recently bought that  DVD for $1 at a second hand store. I had never heard of it before but for a buck I had to get it. Sooo...I'm curious about it.

My next choice is Angel because I bought the series recently and am interested in your thoughts on this one too.

My next choice...just kidding! :tease:

Another vote for a different serie...

Tales from the Crypt ;D

Never watch the serie, but I've rented in the past all the 2 or 3 episodes on a tape who were available at my videoclub and of course I own the 2 movies based on the serie.

Always like the old comic book vibes of this serie (same thing with Creepshow). Never bought a single season and I've no idea why... maybe I need some motivation from you Pete ;)

Awesome deal!  And it really is a good series. I enjoyed every minute of it. It is a shame it was such a short series.

Seems like everyone is voting for a certain 4 series... so I think I just may do like I said above.

Was that the David Greenwalt thingie?

And Kathy, I want to live where you live. First you shock me with West Wing for 6 bucks, now you are down to $1 per TV season. *envious*

Don't you have something like Big Lots in Germany? Or second hand stores? Buffalo, sadly, is one of the poorest cities in the US now and we are loaded with second hand stores.

Organizations such as the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Amvets as well as dozens of religious organizations all except donations and then sell things. If you go in pretty regularly, and get lucky, you can get really good DVDs and other things for almost nothing. Hardcover books are often 3 for $1. Vinyl records they practically give away. I bought a case of a couple of hundred old comic books for $20.

I seldom buy anything new any more - I like saving money, helping the community and the environment by buying things used.

Wait a minute... I just reread this. And see you mention 72 episodes? Either I am missing some or we are talking a different series?

Forever Knight I am talking about (Described in first post) about a vampire cop in Canada. I have...

Season 1: 22 episodes
Season 2: 26 Episodes
Season 3: 22 episodes
Total eps: 70 episodes

Are we missing 2 episodes? This Site shows that it is complete what we got.

Maybe you are thinking the TV movie Nick Night from before the series that starred Rick Springfield in the title role? Once the series started he was replaced with Geraint Wyn Davies. Maybe where you are they aired that movie as a 2-part episode?

If you are meaning the TV Movie Nick Night... that is not included in the set. Would have to get it separately.  But it is cheap... Amazon.com has it for only $6.49.
