[Digital Home Canada]
A survey done by consumer electronics retailer Best Buy earlier this year found that almost 90% of respondents don't understand HDTVs and 50% underestimate the cost of buying one.

What I find interesting in this is that 50% of the people end up paying more than they expected because they weren't told at the retail store that you need more than a HDTV to have television in HD. It looks like the stores are afraid to tell people the truth about it because they may lose sales when people learn that on top a multi-thousand dollars TV they need a multi-hundred dollars decoder and a monthly subscription.

And 2009 is for the United States, in Canada it's 2011 I think

I understand the "not telling "part....whatever it takes to sell something to an uneducated consumer.I also think the manufacturers are partialy to blame just by the way they lable the sets themselves..HD ready,HD monitor,HD compatible....most of the ones at Wal Mart say that yet they still require a decoder to get HD
