I've read all the books and seen the movie twice (had friends over who wanted to see it).  I enjoyed the books, but they're certainly not great.  Maybe not even good.  But like movies, sometimes I enjoy putting the intelligent stuff to the side and let me brain rot with crappy material.  I do think the books could have been easily improved by removing about 40% of each book.  Do we really need 75 pages in a row of Bella talking about her feelings?  Couldn't that have easily been covered in a few pages at most?  Guess I'm not the target audience.

So the books were a decent waste of time.  Thankfully very quick reads as well.  But had it not been for my wife, I doubt I would have ever touched them.  And had it not been for several of her friends pushing her, I doubt she would have touched them either.  She's really not a big fan either.  As for the stuff on TV, I have a DVR, so I don't watch commercials.  So I'm not bothered by the current marketing campaign.

I am the same way... everything I watch is either on DVD or DVR. So I do not watch any commercials.

One of my (female) cousin was head of heel for Twilight (she's 15)...... until she saw the first season of True Blood. Now she thinks Twilight is just a sappy and boring kiddy love story that happens to have vampires in it. She got rid of all the books, and made the vow to never see the movies.

Personally, I've steered clear of Twilight since the beginning. Since I haven't read the books or seen the movie, I can't really form an opinion of it, but the more I hear, the less I want to know. I just hope that if half of what I hear from Twilight about how they played with the Vampire lore is true, that it'll never make its way out of Twilight!

A vampire, is a vampire, is a vampire.

I can stomach an anomaly (Angel having a soul, or Blade being a hybrid), but I almost stopped caring for Buffy/Angel at a certain point...
(click to show/hide)

Now I'm not saying monsters shouldn't "evolve" - I love the "new" zombies for instance - but there's a line where it's just too much. And from what I've heard, Twilight crossed it. Which makes me not even willing to give it a chance.

All that, despite the fact that I think Kristen Stewart is a really good looking girl (when she doesn't look stoned out of her mind) and I would totally buy a movie with her in it just to look at her....

Is it just me, or does Kristen Stewart almost always looks stoned/high/whatever in just about every picture taken of her? <shivers>

She is also a very gifted young actress who got famous with the wrong movie. Especially The Cake Eaters (2007) and Speak (2004) are worth checking out. Both have her starring as the lead.

Well, I first noticed her in Zathura, though it makes me feel a bit queezy that I found her cute... but she was so young! ;)

I agree with you here. Stephanie Meyer changed what a 'vampire' traditionally is so much that those things that she came up with can hardly even be called vampires at all. It's okay to make your own version of something but vampire lore is something that has been set for years and years. She didn't even just change it a little bit, she changed everything.

I also feel this way about Stewart. I especially like her role in Into the Wild. It was brief but I felt she pulled it off very well.

I don't think I've ever been as emotional invested in a movie as much as you seem to Critter. I'm sure my dealing with day to day triumphs and tragedies in critical care makes me unable or unwilling to get worked up over a film. I couldn't, no - I don't want to - waste that much emotional energy on something not real.

I know I tend to get worked up over things Kathy and I apologise. It's just so hard for me to see all my friends, as well as millions of other people around the world become obsessed with such utter rubbish. I am a fan of good film and good literature and the sad thing is that most of the fans actually know that the films crap and that the books are poorly written but they don't care, they just go on being obsessed becuase of how the characters look, not the story involved. Basically it makes me fear for the human race that this one woman has seemingly brainwashed thousands of people. People have been quitting their jobs to live in the town that it's based in. They have now even created their own religion! No one should have this much power over people, especially for something just so mediocre. Or that's what I think anyway.

There is absolutely no reason to apologize for feeling the way you do. I apologize to you for making you apologize to me! :tease:

The point I was making, or trying to anyway, was to show that this type of cultural phenomenon occurs quite often. Something seems to "click" for some reason and fame, fortune and craziness seems to follow.

You're too young to remember but there was a time that people spent millions of dollars to buy a rock...yes a rock. They called it a "pet rock" and it made its inventor a millionaire in 6 months. Seriously.

The books did run on entirely too long, usually dealing with Bella's feelings..or insecurities.  Bella really irritated me throughout all the books.  The worst was in New Moon..I had to force myself to finish that book because Bella irritated me so much.  I know lots of people go on about how romantic the books are..I don't see it for the most part.  But then again, I don't think Romeo and Juliet is that romantic either..it's depressing.

I don't mind some of the changes Meyer came up with for the vampires.  I've read other books that have done little changes too.  Meyer does seem to go a bit...overboard with her changes though.  It's almost like she should have just came up with a new creature/being instead. And the werewolves that aren't real werewolves...Then don't call them werewolves, call them shape changers or something.  And don't get me started on the sparkling in the sun thing.  Vampires being out in daylight it one thing, but sparkling is going to far.  And the way it looked in the movie was horrendous.

 Maybe a wolf on a massive amount of steroids!

But this isn't the first time I seen in Vampire movies that a vampire could turn into a werewolf. Seen it in several... one that comes right to mind would be Fright Night. Evil Ed.

XD Thats the wolf! Lol! awww, its quite cute ;p

It reminded me of that terrible body shimmer moisteriser stuff that is marketed at tweens under some Hannah Montanna label or something like that.

I thought something like that too...shimmer gone horribly wrong.  It is like they were going for a disco ball effect or something.

Tehehe, the first time I saw it I thought it looked nothing at all like an actual shimmer or sparkle. I thought it looked more like he was just overly sweating and the sun was reflecting off it.

I have to disagree, I don't think that Kristen Stewart is particularily attractive or cute at all.
The lass does looked as though she's been drugged, maybe that's how they got her to star in this cinematic crime.

And the kid that plays the vampire he looks like a tweeker or smackhead.

Maybe the D.A.R.E. people should be involved as whats-her-face Meyer is advocating drug use to find love.
