Awful news. I grew up watching The Equalizer and it will always be a favourite. He was a wonderful actor. His last major role was in Hot Fuzz, a play on his classic Wicker Man set-up. I heard the news on Twitter from Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright and later, Edgar posted a really nice article:

I use to watch The Equalizer too. When I watched Hot Fuzz, I had no idea that was him. I didn't recognize him.

First Patrick Swayze died, making it 1-0 to the Actors.
Stephen Gateley and Michael Jackson made it 1-2 to the Pop Stars.
Then Edward Woodward died, that's the Equalizer.
