Movie Fan Art
« on: November 11, 2009, 06:59:20 AM »
I like to draw a lot but I've never really done fan art before. Recently though I felt compelled so I started to draw the Alien Queen from Aliens ( I personally like Alien better). Anyway I thought I'd post the finished thing here to show you guys and get a critical analysis of it so I can improve for next time. I can already see about 50 things I dislike with it and need to work on but more eyes are always helpful.

That's amazing, Critter! Well done.

If I'd change anything it would be the tail. Perhaps longer and swishier... but I'm being picky. ;)

How long have you been drawing? What did you use to draw this?

I know nothing about art so I can only tell you what I think from a strictly amateur point of view.

Its been a long time since I've watched this series so I'm not sure how accurate she is, or if you meant to make her that way. I think she looks terrific. Her face and body are excellent and creepy - just the way she is supposed to be. I keep waiting for her to open her mouth and terrorize someone!

The only thing that I don't care for, and I have no idea why, is her hands. For some reason the left one reminds me of one of my beaters on my hand mixer. They aren't menacing but then I have no idea what they look like in the film!

Wow! That's awesome!

I'm with Kathy though.. what jumped at me as looking odd is the longer left arm's hand.. It looks odd.

Thanks guys, the hand is also something that bothers me. I've always been terrible at drawing hands, paws, claws anything haha. I don't know what but it's something I really need to practice.

I also agree with the tail Jon I think I stuffed it up when I tried to make it turn around.

I've been drawing for years Kathy, just as a hobby. It's one of those things where every little kid draws with crayons and stuff when they are young only I never stopped as I grew haha. I don't draw enough though I sometimes go as long as half a year without drawing anything.

And to draw this I just use pencils and many, many hours haha.

Like your style. :)

What I liked even more than the WarCraft II game were the drawings of Metzen which your drawing reminds me of.

I just checked to see how old you are...still a baby in my eyes! I would encourage you keep at it - six months without drawing is what...almost 5% of your life span? Your talent is obvious and needs to be developed and encouraged.

I remember watching the extras on one of my DVDs, I can't remember which one, and Guillermo Del Toro was giving an interview. It was during one of those Comic festivals and Guillermo was talking about how people show up at those shows and bring their drawings. He said he has hired amateur artists just based on the things they brought to one of these shows. How cool is that?!?

I LOVE art from the Warcraft series. I used to play Warcraft 3 (I think it was) and that also had awesome art which inspired me a lot.

That's cool about Del Toro Kathy. I think all of his films have awesome design, especially creature design and I love seeing the concept art.
