What's 'On Demand'?
You watch it when you want, but it's streamed from the TV company.

Yup... that is basically it. It is a channel (or several channels actually) on Digital Cable where it is just a menu of content of all kinds of TV Shows and movies that you can turn on whenever you want to. Most free of charge though Pay per View has gone to the On-Demand format as well (at least at my cable company). You just go through the menu and select what you want to watch and it (almost instantly) downloads from the cable company and starts to play.

I have several On Demand channels with our cable right now...

- On-Demand (Just basic On-Demand channel that has new and old TV Shows and movies. Both free and Pay-per-View)
- HBO On Demand (Comes free with your subscription to HBO... allowing you to download and watch HBO movies and series when you want to)
- Showtime On-Demand (See HBO ON-Demand)
- Cinemax On-Demand (See HBO ON-Demand)
- The Movie Channel On-Demand (See HBO ON-Demand)
- Starz On-Demand (See HBO ON-Demand)
- Encore On-Demand (See HBO ON-Demand... though this one may be a free channel not sure. [No Subscription Required])
- FEARnet (This is an On-Demand channel that shows free horror movies/behind the scenes/documentaries. All horror all the time)

And I believe there are other On-Demands that you can subscribe to.. like I noticed info to order WWE On-Demand and Playboy TV On-Demand.

Pete, its probably not a 'father and daughter' movie.
Although, it might be more painful to watch for Pete than Brittany

Very true. Just don't want it giving Brittany any ideas. Its just not what I would call a 'child friendly' subject matter. Not adult friendly either. But really worth sticking with it.

Thanks for the explanations guys. I think there is something like that on Australian paytv but I just have the free to air one so we don't have that many channels, and not any on demand ones.

I am actually thinking about getting rid of my pay channels now that we are taking a hit on our finances. So that may knock me down to only 2 or 3 On-Demand channels.

Wow, Pete...I didn't realize there were more than ONE On-Demand channels!  I only knew of the one "Basic" channel as you call it.  That's all I have.  Of course, I know most of the ones you list are an offshoot of other pay channels, none of which I get.  I never even heard of FEARnet, though...

I called the cable company... when I talked about turning off all the premium channels they offered me a great deal (extremely cheap for a whole year) to keep them all. So I will not be loosing any of the premium channels after all. :)

That surprises me... I know you have Comcast as well... didn't realize they were THAT different in different areas. And surprised you don't have FEARnet as that is a free On-Demand service here.

Maybe FEARNet is here and I just don't know about it?  What channel would that be on...666?  Of course, if it's all newer horror films, I might not be too interested in watching it anyway.  I'm not surprised Comcast made you that deal as they've tried it with me in the past...anything to keep your business.  They're hoping a year from now you'll keep it and they can go back to charging you full price..  :surrender:

Pretty close... FEARnet is on 166  :P But yeah... I really doubt you would be interested... for the most part it is the newer horror. Pretty much all '80s on up.

One thing I liked that helped me this month though... we were going over my bill... and found they been charging me for some equipment I don't have for the past year... they had to refund me over $100... so this month's bill was actually very cheap! :)

Well, I checked and there is no channel 166 on my cable, though there is a 167 which is an Indie channel.  Maybe when I have a half-hour to kill, I'll use the program guide to see every channel I do have and mark down the channel numbers of ones that might interest me that I've never checked out.  By the way, a few channels have been moved around on Comcast here and two movie channels (AMC and TCM) have been moved, I think, to Digital Starter level.  This doesn't affect me since I am on Digital Starter level myself...but now I can't see those channels at the dialysis center so no old movies for me while I'm there  :redcard:

That sucks... I hate when they mess with the channel line-up.

I just watched Paul Blart: Mall Cop on Starz On-Demand. It had some cute parts... and some entertainment value... but not really impressed with it. I doubt I will add it to my collection... not really one I could be excited about seeing again.

I might go watch some more of The Facts of Life since it looks like we'll never get another season set of the show on DVD...

Id recommend Observe and Report (if you haven't seen it) it was made at roughly the same time, both production teams knew they were making similar films and were ok about it (weirdly) Observe and Report is a little darker and funnier ;p better of the two.

Well, it turns out I do get FEARnet after all...but on a different channel than you did.  I just never realized it was there.  Where you get it on 166, I get it on something like channel 510.  I did glance at some of the movie titles there and none of them looked like they would really appeal to me...about what I figured.   8)
