Should've been
« on: December 18, 2007, 01:38:54 PM »
Something in The Joker thread triggered something for me.

It was the mention of Aaron Eckhart being cast in the role of Harvey Dent in the new Batman film. I think a better choice would've been Alexis Denisof.

I know that we haven't seen his performance yet, butit's just my  :2cents:.

I'm not going to get started on Spider-man, that was just wrong in so many roles(including the director)

Anyone else want to vent about a role they feel was miscast and what the correct casting should've been?

 ???

Part of the appeal of movies for me is the magical accidents in things like casting. I don't have many I think were particularly miscast to the point they were detrimental to the film, and perhaps only a few I later thought someone else would have been perfect, as opposed to decent. Exceptions to that rule would be Stallone as Dredd and Lazenby as Bond. Just, no.

Rather, I prefer to think of the near misses: Indiana Jones (Tom Selleck); Back to the Future (Eric Stoltz); Dirty Harry (Frank Sinatra), etc. Can you imagine watching Sinatra and thinking, well this is a pretty good movie... I wonder what that cowboy bloke could have done with it though?

For the record, I don't think Denisof would have necessarily made a better Two Face. What makes him stand out for you? Careful how you answer that...  ;)

What makes him stand out to me? His wife. and what she did one time at band camp.

TBH I don't think I've seen him anything but Buffy/Angel, but he did the straightlaced very well and then in Angel he showed that it was possible for him to be nasty and have an evil streak a mile wide.

In my mind Harvey Dent is a very determined individual, well until the accident when he's still very determined but a whole heap of psycho too.
I think that Bale and Denisof would play off of each other extremely well.
I can't remember when I first read about Harvey being in DK, but Denisof was the first actor that came to mind for the role.

I don't dispute that Eckhart has been pretty good in other things(I'm a fan of Payback), but I just can't see him as the District Attorney, a politian/Mayorial role? Yes, but as the DA? No.

Payback? I can't remember him in that. I only watched the Straight Up version the other night and I'm pretty sure he wasn't in that version.

BTW, if you like Payback, have you seen the director's cut?

I meant Paycheck. :-[

But I do really like Payback, though. One of Mel's best.
Not seen the DirCut though, what's extra in it?

So who should it've been?
I seriously don't know but Elijah Wood (like Seagal and van Damme) has this "one face for every emotion".

See what you mean.

But on a side note, not long after I'd seen Fellowship I watched Queen Of The Damned(the follow on to Interview Witha A Vampire) and everytime I saw Stuart Townsend, I kept expecting Sam to pop up and say something like "Oh, you can't do that Mr Frodo".
Kinda chnged my perception of the film.

Another side note: Everytime I watch the Fellowship and Frodo awakes in Rivendell and Elrond comes in the room, I expect him to say

Welcome to Rivendell, Mister Anderson.
