Topic: Remakes

Ok, I admit I'm kinda middle of the road on the subject of remakes, some I like and can see the point of e.g. Halloween (2007), others like the forthcoming Alien or Predator & Robocop, are totally uncalled for.

However, sometimes I watch a film or tv programme and wonder what it would be like if it was updated or modernized.

Being modernised worked for Mission Impossible.
It worked for Death Race.
It worked for Gone In 60 Seconds.
The Italian Job had it's merits (Charlize Theron  )
Knight Rider is ok, could be a whole lot worse.

Anyway to the point of this post, I started thinking about the much speculated film version of The A-Team. It got me thinking as to what other highlights from my youth I would like to see.

Dallas - This may be a strange one but I do think that this could very well fill a Sopranos shaped hole in the television schedules. Also the way that the world has moved on since the 80's would be interesting (foreign oil, recession).

Worzel Gummidge - David Fincher or David Cronneberg, maybe Guillermo Del Toro let loose on this late 70's show would be very creepy 

Airwolf - Automan - Manimal - Would quite like to see these updated and with the advancements in CGi and animatronics, they could be quite special.

Anyone else think of anything that they'd like to see?

Alien will more than likely be a prequel and I guess you're referring to Predators by Robert Rodriguez, which I think looks like a fantastic idea; would be what Aliens is to Alien. Robocop could have been interesting because it was Darren Aronofsky, but I think it's fallen through now. But with all those possibilities listed as totally uncalled for, you could find love for a Halloween retread? Urgh. Gone in 60 Seconds is a close call. The original is awful, but has more power in it's last half-hour than the tepid new one could muster.

Definitely. Although, what's Automan? And my personal preference would be Blue Thunder over Airwolf, but good call on Manimal. I loved that show.

Add to the list Streethawk, Beauty and the Beast and Whiz Kids. No-one ever remembers Whiz Kids, and I only do vaguely, but it had an impression on me for a good reason.

But most of all, The Good Life. C'mon, we all want to know if Tom and Barbara made it in a world of self-sufficiency. And it could be poignant seeing Margot on her own...

Toatally forgot about Dragnet (Tom Hanks when he was likeable).

The Alien one just sounds lazy to me. Unless they are going to go with the story of the space jockey.
Didn't know that Aronofsky was attached to Robocop, but I still don't see how they could improve on the original.
I've not read too much about Predators, but what I had made it sound like a rehash of the first but with 2 Preds instead of 1 and no Ahnuld.
I just think that the original Halloween hasn't aged well, NOT the story but the print itself and it just looks TOO 70's.

GI60S is like Full Metal Jacket if I happen to catch it when it's on I have to watch it.

Was never too keen on Streethawk, but it would be interesting to revisit it.
B&B was another that I never really bothered with.
Whiz Kids? drawing a blank on that one.

Good call on The Good Life. Maybe not a full series but certainly 6 episodes(?) just to touch base would be good.
