You're right about the ending. I remember enjoying the earlier sequence, but wondering how it would hold up to repeat viewings.
Well, as I tried to say in my post, for me the problem was already with the first viewing. It was just set up too prominently (of course, less prominently would make it seem like a cheat) and since I know that it was coming I couldn't get the previous scenes pass quickly enough, hoping Sam had a double-twist in store for me.

I enjoyed this movie. It had some genuinely creepy moments, but it also has the slapstick moments that I come to know and love form Sam Raimi. Glad to see he could step away from Spiderman for a little while and go back to this style again. This is a must buy for me.

Oh, and just for the record Army of Darkness is great.
