How have your purchases developed?
« on: February 18, 2009, 09:34:56 AM »
This morning I was running some statistics and I noticed a drop in 2008. But on the other hand I had a similar drop in 2006. Maybe I buy more in odd years. :D

What about you? Do you buy more or less DVDs than in previous years?

PS: I began purchasing DVDs in 2000 but I've been using DVDP only from 2002 onwards, so these 36 DVDs are from 2000-2002.

My purchases peaked between 2003 and 2007, as I worked to build up my collection.
As the majority of older films I desired are now owned, now I typically only purchase new releases.

Peaked in 2006. Haven't dropped below the previous peak of 2001 though. Doubt I'll ever get back to the buying levels of 1998. I bought 1! :hysterical: Rich, how did you even find 47 to buy in 1997?  ???

The date of purchase aren't set in dvdp before 2006 because I wasn't buying online then and I was unable to get the info

Yeardvd purchase
2005 and before362
2006241
2007190
2008119
200914

I don't count my vhs-rip that will be the majority of the dvd add to my collection for 2009.

I got DVD Profiler some time in 2004, so all the numbers before that are "false", I used the release date for most. Also, these numbers are "profiles", not actual titles purchased.

Yeardvd purchase
200025
200168
200258
200347
2004298
2005385
2006365
2007371
2008386
20095

I got the most in 2008...165.  Before that 2006 was the most with like 123 or so.

So far this year, I've gotten 40.

Year# total# TV Sets# DVD# Blu-ray
200053353
200113414134
200216636166
200323267232
2004237118237
2005247124247
2006175102175
2007163108163
2008184911777
20092210157

Even though I peaked in 2005, the reason for the decline is not that I have bought less, but because I have concentrated more on TV season sets.

More than one a day for a good while there. Was that actually at least one per day? I don't even buy bread and milk that often! :tease:

Yeah, kinda lost control there for a pretty while. But I don't think I did buy 1 title a day.. like I said, these are profiles, not titles, so I'm not sure. I should count the collection numbers, instead of new profiles to have a better picture of the situation.

The chart below reflects purchased items, so Box Sets only count as one. Now I wonder why 2005 and 2006 are so weird and don't follow the overall trend. :hmmmm: 2003 is the year I returned from China to Taiwan, so I guess getting settled again slowed purchases.

Not totally accurate. 2005 is a little hefty as this is the year I first started using DVDP, so the dates are a little skewed.
Yeardvd purchase
20002
20023
20038
20047
2005569
2006101
200752
200894
200917

I'm such a sad git that I was using my own database to track the collection way before anyone had heard of DVD Profiler or even DVD! :bag:

I had a list of my movies...just written on paper, but I didn't add the purchase dates.  I did sort of keep track of when I watched the movies...I'd put checkmarks by the title every time I watched the movie, though again, no dates.  That would have helped me greatly when I got DVD Profiler.  My numbers before last year are probably off.  I had the program before that, but I had to redo everything once in 2007 when I got this computer and then again last summer when I had to restore this computer.  I backed up the wrong thing for DVD Profiler and had to start over again.  I know which file to backup now.
