Thanks for the clip... I am curious about this new series. I really enjoyed both miniseries so I bought the original series blind. I have had it for years and only watched the first couple episodes... Not that it was bad or anything... but never had the urge to go back to it for some reason.

I wish they had found some lesser known actors though, I associate a couple of the others so strongly with Lost and 4400 it will be a distraction

Out of the blue huge spaceships appear above the major cities all over the world. In 29 ships the Visitors - as they call themselves - came to Earth to make trade. They need a mineral that exists in abundance on Earth and they are willing to give technologies and cures that don't exist on Earth. But are they really putting all their cards on the table?

It wasn't bad. And I bet for someone who doesn't know the original it's a cool start. But this wasn't a restart like the one from Battlestar Galactica. Somehow this felt a bit too indistinctive, even when they used a slightly different back story. But all the other elements were there. The Human spokesperson, the secret resistance, the resistance within the aliens, the "Hitler Youth"-alike youth organization, ... Don't get me wrong I will watch it, but so far the only thing that surprised me was the identity of resistance alien.

I forgot and missed the first episode, will watch it online when they release it tonight but I'm surprised that all the elements mentioned above are already covered after only 1 episode.  I haven't seen the original series in many years but I don't remember it going so fast.  Were the resistance and "Alien youth" introduced right away ?

I can't really remember how the original V (1983) was aired. On my DVD it's a two-part mini series, part one 1:41h, part two 1:28h.

Then one year later there was the continuation V: The Final Battle (1984), also a mini-series and then there was the 19 episodes series V (1984) in which the aliens returned after they had been driven off at the end of V:TFB.

IIRC all the major elements were there after part one of V (1983) but that's at least twice as long as the pilot of the new V (2009). And I agree, it felt a bit rushed. It wouldn't have hurt if they had introduced the human/alien resistance in the second or third episode.

Apparently I misunderstood the info on abc.com, what they're gonna put online tonight is something with commentaries, the first episode is already available..........I can watch it right now

I like it.  They did rush things a little but at least toward the end they kinda make it right when saying the V's have been here for years.  It's not like they showed up for the first time and the next day there was a resistance.  Still I agree with you Karsten, they rushed it a bit.  The could have played the FBI investigation leading to the resistance for a few episodes in parallel with the priest having is doubts and trying to find more.

A good show anyway, I'm hooked !

I enjoyed it too and I agree that some things - like the resistance and the aliens being part of the resistance were a bit rushed.  I just watched the originals again.  I'm thinking it was in the second part of the first one that the resistance stuff really got attention.  It might have been mentioned by the end of the first part, but not as much as it was in the new show.

And I'm still irked about Alan Tudyk..not so much that he was a bad alien, but that he got killed so soon.  At least it seems like he did.  I read a review about the show, and that was the main thing that irritated the reviewer.  Also, I saw somewhere how it was pointed out that his characters kept getting impaled by large pointy things.
