Justice League: The New Frontier
Based on Darwyn Cooke's award-winning graphic novel, this thrilling adventure reveals the origin of the Justice League. With Cold War paranoia putting Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman under government suspicion, only the gravest threat imaginable can force these heroes - along with an army of newcomers including The Flash, Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter - to unite in a spectacular showdown to save the world.

My Thoughts:
This is one I have never seen before... but been wanting to see. So I was thrilled when I got it today for my birthday! I enjoyed this one... is a good movie... but I have to admit I was expecting a little more from it. I think it could have been better. I guess it is just different then I was expecting. I thought that the Justice League would have been formed by the middle of the movie... when actually it don't happen till the end. It is the events leading up to the creation of the Justice League. And this also hit on a pet peeve of mine... Wonder Woman is not supposed to fly!!! At least I never seen any other show where she had. That was the reason for her invisible plane... so what is with the flying? But over all I liked this movie... and this 2-disc DVD set looks great... looks like it is packed with extras. Though I haven't had the chance to check out any of the extras yet.

The Adventures of Captain Marvel
Considered by many to be the finest serial ever made, The Adventures of Captain Marvel chronicles the exploits of "The World's Mightiest Mortal" as he combats The Scorpion, a hooded villain intent on obtaining six optical lenses that, when aligned properly, turn ordinary stones into gold! Highlighting the serial were the fabulous flying sequences by Republic's ace special effects team, Howard and Theodore Lydecker. Combining a wired dummy photographed against real backgrounds in natural sunlight, with spectacular take-ff leaps and landings supplied by action ace, David Sharpe, the final effects are still as fascinating today as they were in 1941. The Adventures of Captain Marvel marked the very first time a comic book superhero's exploits were transferred to the silver screen, and the resulting 12 chapters have yet to be equaled for excitement and entertainment.

Chapter 5: The Scorpion Strikes
The Scorpion overhears that Billy Batson communicates with Captain Marvel, so he decides to use Batson as bait so he can kill Captain Marvel.

My Thoughts:
Another good... but not great chapter. At least this one has a good cliffhanger. Not too much else to say about this one. Just that the serial is still very entertaining... and over all... I am still enjoying this serial very much.

Ultimate Avengers: The Movie
A world in crisis. Age-old enemies on the verge of attack. A mighty team is recruited, and Earth's ultimate hero is sought to lead them — Captain America. Unfortunately, he's been frozen in ice for over sixty years.

Inspired by Marvel's best-selling books, "The Ultimates," this is the extraordinary story of six very independent heroes who, like it or not, must fight as one to save the world. Little did they know that their biggest threat would emerge from within their very own ranks — The Incredible Hulk!

My Thoughts:
I got this through Amazon Marketplace very cheap. After watching it I feel like I got a heck of a deal... because I enjoyed every minute of it!  I was never familiar with The Avengers... but always liked both Captain America and Iron Man. But before this movie I never even heard of a few of them (Wasp, Giant Man & Black Widow). I really enjoyed seeing the team get together. This is now the second time I watched this movie since I got it... about a month and a half ago. And I enjoyed it just as much on the second viewing as I did on the first.

Chapter 6: Lens of Death
The Scorpion pretends he has captured all but one lens in order to fool the others into revealing where they hid them.

My Thoughts:
I am now half way through this serial. And this one is a very good chapter. It has lots of action... from start to finish this time! The cliffhanger wasn't the greatest... but over-all I enjoyed this chapter very much.

Ultimate Avengers 2: Rise of the Panther
To save humanity, the Earth's mightiest heroes must reunite for a rematch of heroic proportions.

Mysterious Wakanda. It lies in the darkest heart of Africa, unknown to most of the world. An isolated land hidden behind closed borders, fiercely protected by its young king — the BLACK PANTHER. But when brutal alien invaders attack, that leaves the Black Panther with no option but to go against the sacred decrees of his people and ask for help from outsiders. And so he turns to...

THE AVENGERS — Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man, Wasp, Black Widow and the Incredible Hulk. These mightiest of heroes have battles the aliens before and barely survived. They thought it was over. They were wrong.

My Thoughts:
This is the first time I ever seen this one. It is another movie I got for my birthday today. After enjoying the first part so much I couldn't wait to check this one out as well. Hoping I would enjoy it just as much as the first. And I was not disappointed at all... once again they did a very good job on this animated movie. I once again enjoyed every minute of it. Though there was a couple minor things in the story line that I didn't care much for. But I am thrilled I have it. I believe if you enjoyed the first one... you will enjoy this one as well. The Black Panther is one I have heard of before... but I never actually seen him in anything till now. I do like this character... very well done.

Chapter 7. Human Targets
The Scorpion kidnaps Betty for knowing far too much. Billy follows her and is captured again.

My Thoughts:
For the most part the seventh chapter of this serial felt to be little more then filler. Nothing too exciting happened at all. Though it does have a good cliffhanger at the end.

Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow
Whenever the forces of evil threatened mankind, Earth's mightiest heroes, the Avengers, were there to stop them — until they made the ulitmate sacrifice in their final fight with the indestructible robot, Ultron. But all was not lost for Tony Stark (Iron Man) kept the children of the Avengers safe and raised them to become the teenage heroes of tomorrow. Now James (son of Captain America and Black Widow), Torunn (daughter of Thor), Azari (son of the Black Panther), and Pym (son of Wasp and Giant Man) must finish the fight their parents started. Soon the arrow-slinging son of Hawkeye will join their ranks, but it will take more than five teens to destroy the machine that defeated their parents. If these young heroes have any hope of winning, they must find the missing Hulk and come together as... the Next Avengers!

My Thoughts:
This is the first time I ever seen this movie. It is one my daughter picked up for my for my birthday. This is another one I liked a lot. It was fun not only seeing the kids of the Avengers... but also seeing an old Tony Stark/Iron Man and an old Bruce Banner/Hulk. One thing I would liked to know though... which they never said in the movie. I wander who was the mother of the Black Panther's son. He had a cool electricity power... and was wondering how that fit in. But unfortunately it just didn't say. Now I do like this movie... but I must admit I prefer the original Avengers.

By the way Pete: Have you ever watched the He-Man reboot?
I got in the mood to watch a couple of episodes again, as watching the Wonder Woman movie has reminded me very much of this series. It has similar animation style.
And as you seem to enjoy animated superhero series and movies, I think you would enjoy it.

Thanks for the recommendation. I remember the original He-Man cartoons... which were pretty good. But I don't think I ever seen the reboot version.

Oh, when you already liked the old cartoon, then you will love this new version. In my opinion it is both a great series for a new generation, but also great re-imagination for the nostalgic fans. This series gives nice back stories for the characters which were only touched upon in the old series.

Pete, the release of the rebooted He-Man series that I have, are dicontinued because the company who did release them went out of business (which is a shame because they did make high quality releases for a low price and obviously with much love.)
But now another company has has picked up the license and will release the complete series (39 episodes) for the great price of $24.98 in September.
I think you would really enjoy it. Think of Justice League set to a fantasy background.
Of course I can hardly say if this comparison fits as I do not really know Justice League. But I think you can compare the "Masters of the Universe" with the Justice League, where He-Man is Superman.

Chapter 8. Boomerang
Billy, Whitey, and Betty are convinced that Lang is the Scorpion after noticing his right hand is bandaged.

My Thoughts:
This is a decent chapter... though once again not a whole lot happens. Just a lot of filler again. And this time the cliffhanger is a bit on the boring side as well. I would say it isn't good or bad... just an average chapter.
