Cell phones
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:29:20 PM »
I thought I should share this email I received from a friend:

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public next month.
REMINDER....  all cell phone numbers are being released to
telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

..... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell
 phone:    888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your
time. It blocks your number for five (5) years.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You
cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS... It takes about
 20 seconds.

Is this for real in the US or is this a scam to trick you into calling this 888 snumber? Since when gets one charged when one is the callee and not the caller?

Don't know about US, but for Canada, you get charged for calls even when you receive the call. You pay for all "air time" you use.

And this practice had cause a lot of very high bill for the text message also. You pay for everything... even the spam messages. Thank God I don't own a cell phone ;D I've a normal phone with an answering machine and this is enough for me. I can't understand why someone had to be available at every moment in his life

Yeah. I have a cell phone, but it's off 99.9999% of the time. It is an emergency phone, and will not be used for anything else.

I'm not sure if this works or not, heck I still use a rotary phone, but it would really suck if one got stuck paying for ad people to harass them.

That has to be a scam. I've heard of similar things in the UK. It'll be some sort of kickback line; everyone who rings it, they get paid...

donotcall.gov is the actual government site where you can register your phones (USA only). I have had my phones registered for a few years. It does work.
