Concerning my marathon topic
« on: March 15, 2009, 05:15:07 AM »
As you have probably seen by my recent reviews, I am currently on a big adult movie phase. The good thing is that everything I watch is reviewed, but it means also that a lot of adult movie appeared in the home page. So I was wondering what is the general feeling about this, since we are a "familly friendly" forum.

I let the poll open for a week and you can change your answer if you need to.

All discussion is welcome if you have some others ideas or suggestions.

I've forgot I don't vote on this one.

Another solution could be that I filter out Jimmy's reviews by principle. Or that we tag adult reviews in the reviews list and I filter them out.

But I let the community decide.

Personally I don't mind them popping up on the main page (I am probably the only regular visitor who goes to the main page anyway).

But I think the decision lies entirely with Karsten. I don't know much about laws and regulations regarding internet sites, so I don't know if it can cause any problem for Karsten. I hope not.
So I feel comfortable with anything Karsten feels comfortable showing up on the front page.

Is it possible to filter out a specific thread? That would give Jimmy the possibility to maintain a family-friendly thread and an adult thread.

The script is handwritten, so if I know the fred number I can filter them out.

No, you're not ;)

What's Fred got to do with it? :P

But I agree with Tom, it's ultimately entirely up to you. Personally, I don't mind.

No, you're not ;)

Make that three regulars who enter by the front page ;)

And I also don't mind. Most of the time, yes the review is about an adult movie, but is the review itself really all that bad? I don't think so. I mean, they do show trailers for R-rated movies as approved for all audiences, so what's the problem with G-rated reviews of X-rated material? ;)

Four. I always enter the front...

erm... :-[

Seriously, I like the homepage and refresh it a couple of times to look at older reviews or ones I may have missed.

I am torn on this topic. I - personally - couldn't care less about the issue. But I am not alone in the world.

What do you think about this compromise: Jimmy's reviews only appear in the lower review box, not in the upper. So the first thing a user sees isn't some vintage porn. ;) And if one of Jimmy's reviews is chosen in the lower review box I inserted a small yet harmless disclaimer.

Anything you decide is ok with me. I am not one to enjoy anything more then a Playboy or Girls Gone Wild video... but it really don't bother me either.

Now that is just scary! My wife made me watch that with her one time. By the time it was half way through I was ready to pull my hair out and stick it in my ears!  :suicide:

Don't really work for this one :tease:

I'm another one who always enter from the home page and I've observed that some of my more mature review appear on it. I don't think that anything is shocking for anyone here  (at least I've never receive a PM after one review), but anyone who enter the site after a Google search could see them and there no way to know their age. The fast solution that came to my mind yesterday was to place all of them (the true adult one) in a different topic. It seems that Karsten can filter easilly what appear on the home page, but using a filter for all my reviews seems a little bit extreme (that make me look like a perverted man ). With the adult content place in its own topic Karsten would be able to decide how to deal with them : show them with a warning, show them hidden behind a spoiler tag or don't show them at all.

No problem for me to create a new topic and moving them there (just 2 little copy&paste jobs). Like I've said the decision is up to you not me.

I also come through the front page all the time.  Personally I really don't mind seeing adult movie reviews on the main page but I think there's another factor to consider and that should be the owner's decision imo.

How do you want search engines to index the site ?  Having a front page that changes all the time is good because when search engines see a change every time they visit they usually come more often and sites that are more dynamic get better ranks than static sites.

But there could be a downside to it, if the search engines find to many things they see as adult content they will catalog the site as an adult site and it won't get a good ranking in their index.

As I said, I personally don't mind but if Karsten doesn't want to take the risk of not getting got rankings in search engines I think it would be a reasonable and legitimate decision to filter out the adult reviews.

Karsten a suggestion if you want to do that. Why not created a table in the database to keep the msg_id of those that are not to be showed.  We can easily create a php page that will only be accessible by registered forum members where they could maintain a list of posts to filter out.
