4.01 - He That Believeth in Me

Synopsis: The Cylon attack the fleet and this time there's no escape. Several ships are destroyed, but then two things happen: Starbuck returns and one of the Raiders scans Anders retina. Then they abort and the Cylon fleet jumps away.
When Starbuck returns to the Galactica she claims to have gone only for several hours - she had been away for 2 months.

My opinion: There are two interpretations to this retreat:
1st) The Cylons aborted because they recognized the Final Five and it's against their programming to destroy them. That would mean that the Raiders have been updated as soon as the Four had "awoken" because there were incidents before this were some (all?) of them were nearly killed by Cylons.
2nd) They retreated because Starbuck returned. Starbuck was presumed dead and as soon as she radioed that she'd found Earth, the Cylons aborted. Why? Because they want to find Earth as badly as the Humans.
The incident in the end was just a bait. Even before I watched 4x02 I didn't believe either Starbuck nor Roslin to be a Cylon. But to be honest I have no idea who it could be. I've read several postings were people exlained their suspicion and they all had valid points as well as flaws in their logic.

4x02 - Six of One
Synopsis: Starbuck is in the brig (again!) for attacking Roslin and because no one is sure who or what she is. On the Basestar the six remaining series (Cavil, Leoben, Simon, Doral, Six & Valerii) debate about the reconfiguration of the Raiders after they've refused to attack. Since the decommissioning on the Biers series) there has been the possibility of a stalemate. It's Cavil, Simon and Doral vs. Leoben, Six and Valerii - a stalemate. But then one Valerii - the original "Boomer" to be precise - votes with Cavil. The Natalie copy of the series Six takes drastic measures.

My opinion: Interestingly it's the series who had a more emotional contact with the Humans who oppose the reconfiguration and thus destruction of the fleet: Leoben, Six and Valerii. They become more and more human. But I haven't figured out yet while Boomer voted differently. Peter von Frosta made a remark to the third season but I can't remember what happened back then.

Thanks for starting this thread.  It should be an interesting season.

I hadn't thought of the retreat being due to Starbuck's return.  :hmmmm: Interesting.

That's it. The end.

They invented a deus ex machina without the machine. A very interesting and mystical end. But at least they have managed that all open questions can be simply brushed away.

But I liked it.
