hope my Father isn't a member he doesn't know that I was watching his movie when I was a teenager

Aw come on! Every teenager stumbled unto his Dad's special VHS stack and got curious. I'm sure he already knows!

Really liked this article on the BBC website.

He highlighted some things that I thought were dead on.

Can't help but wonder if it wasn't for the colour of his skin how much he would be villified for saying these things.

Radio 1 said yesterday that some were saying he was a racist and should be prosecuted. But he's right! I don't mind who my neighbours are, but I think learning our language and culture is just being reasonable. Just as I would expect to do if I moved abroad. Sadly a lot don't bother. Ex-pats in Spain actually complain if there isn't an English chippy nearby. ::)

When the turkish premier visited Germany he spoke to "his countrymen" in Cologne and he declared that any demands to learn the german language would be an attempt to "assimilate" the Turks (those who live in Germany!) and that they shouldn't do it.

Quote
The prime minister goes on to address the integration of Turks in Germany. "I understand that you are sensitive about the issue of assimilation," Erdogan says. "No one can demand that from you." Assimilation -- in other words, conforming to German culture -- is a catchword that Turkish immigrants associate with their fear of losing their national identity. Erdogan does not repeat the controversial demand he made to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday, when he called for the founding of Turkish-language educational institutions in Germany. Today, he only says: "It is your natural right to teach your children their mother tongue."

I will make only one comment on that since we have the same problem here.

If they aren't happy, if they don't want to learn the language and if they don't want to live like the others country citizens the solution is easy : they Just had go back to their country if it is so great why quit it...

I don't know but if I quit my country for one reason or another I will try my best to learn the language and the custom of the new one. This is just a question of respect for a country that had no obligation to welcome you at all.

I've never understood this "assimilation" claim. No one's expecting them to stop using Turkish, they're just expecting them to also learn the language of their fellow countrymen. Lots of places are bi-lingual.
